X-ray in early pregnancy

Has anyone ever had a chest X-ray in early pregnancy? Thoughts? Feeling? I’m just worried about going ahead?

Hi, yes I’ve had a CAT scan when I was 20+ weeks. They were very careful and did not put the machine past my lungs so my stomach was outside so the baby would not have received much/if none of the radiation. But what made me decide to go ahead with it over their other choice, was more of a life threatening suspicion they had so it was in my best interest for them to check and make sure all was ok! If the issue for them wanting to x Ray is urgent for your own health, I would say don’t be afraid, they will make sure the baby does not get exposed and they will make preparations for this to make sure. If it’s a traditional x Ray where you stand in front of the machine, the photograph will not be done past your lungs. If it’s a CAT scan, then they will only put the upper half of your body in and leave your stomach out. Don’t be afraid, this is something which the doctors incur often in their day to day work and is only suggested to you if they realllly need to see what’s going on inside.

I hope this helps. Hope everything goes well xx

@Oleta thank you! I’ve had a slight crackle for a while on my lung but they booked me in just to get it checked and didn’t say they were worried or suspicious of anything to me? However I would rather get checked then spend the rest of my pregnancy worrying but at the same time, the pregnancy is still in its infancy and worried it may affect it xx

Oh right I see, yeah I wouldn’t worry too much about the procedure, as the doctors would have booked it just so they can see inside and then treat you :) it’s not always an extreme case reason to having an x-ray booked, just gives them a visual on what’s going on so they can give you the right treatment / medication so try not to stress. Mine was quite different as I was already in A&E for a suspected lung clot as I was complaining the baby was pressing on my lungs (she was breech) so completely different aha so they wanted to check my lungs because of my symptoms. They are honestly so careful and treat you well and make the arrangements with the radiologist to make sure baby is out of the way of the machine so it does minimise their exposure and it’s very quick. You and baby will be fine 🤍 But absolutely it’s just peace of mind isn’t it, at least the doctors will know what treatment you need and then go from there. X

@Oleta yea of course! How scary! My little boy was breach so i totally get it! 🤞🏼 all will be fine. I think I’ll only be like 6 weeks come the scan so I hope it’s all okay xx

Very scary night but all was fine! Turns out it was just her head lodged into my diaphragm making my asthma x1000 worse causing the breathlessness. 😂 Ohh okay I see! Yes all the best to you all will be okay 🤍🤍
