Wwyd?

My husband works Monday to Saturday, including Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings 4-11. Jakob is in childminders Tuesday and Thursday. I've got an interview for a job for Tuesday, Thursday and Sundays. Which means we will never have family time and I'll never have a 'day off' to get everything done round the house. It's just a minimum wage care work job but some extra pennies which are well needed at the moment. Jakob also has lots of appointments (9 this week!) and is regularly poorly so I'd have to factor that into it. I also have an older kid who needs support in school holidays and in a few months when j moves to pre school it's term time only. I couldn't sleep last night about worrying what to do. I really don't want this job but I only know how to do care work, but with 2 disabled kids at home too I'd be in care mode 24/7. Interview is at 1 and I'm in a right tizz!

Is the care work in the daytime or evenings? I don’t know your circumstances very well but have you considered just a few evening shifts on the evenings your husband isn’t working? I’m in a similar situation and am soon going to be looking for a pub/restaurant job for a few evenings a week (husband works 7 days a week at the moment but is looking to cut down). That would mean you wouldn’t see eachother in the week but would have Sundays off together as a family? Sorry if that’s not something doable for your family but just thought i’d comment as that’s our plan.

I physically couldn't cope with evening shifts cos Jakob is up by 5am every morning and doesn't sleep through. By 9pm I'm exhausted 😂

Oh Mel! Is it worth it if you feel burned out? X

I've decided against it. I'll keep looking for something more suitable. My gut just told me it wasn't right x

I didn’t see this until now but I honestly think if you were worrying about it before hand you’ve made the right decision. I turned down a job last week for reasonable money but would have meant Taliah was in nursery from 7:30am - 6:30pm 5 days a week and I just couldn’t stop worrying and that’s her with no added medical complications so I completely get why you were stressing! Xx

@Charlie it's a lot isn't it. In no time at all they'll be in school so wanna spend every second with him that I can. I wish I knew how to use computers so I could get a WFH job 😂

@Mel s oh completely agree as I think we are one and done so don’t want to regret anything 😂 if that makes sense! I can hardly work my phone so I’m with you on that one!! X

Are there any work from home jobs you could do when Jakob naps/goes to bed? Or do an evening shift so you’re still in bed by 9? That is super tough. I work when my daughter naps and goes to bed!

@Rosie Jakob doesn't nap and I've got an older kid too so even though I'm exhausted by 9 my parenting hours are generally 5am till 11pm!

Is there something you could do online only? I know there are many short courses where you could get some free training. This is a website I’ve seen mentioned a few times for mums looking to work from home https://www.timeetc.co.uk/index.php?ref=Google-1&kw=a%20Virtual%20Assistant&creative=689451010263&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD8egottQ67yWmmdz-gzMwLXrB5My&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzZmwBhD8ARIsAH4v1gWNYHxnzceW9WdHdYTYUsonRZc2RU6qtAOqowMw1c_3cMqQOCzbgrEaAtN9EALw_wcB
