Mobile epidural

Hi everyone is mobile/walking epidurals common in the uk? I did read only certain hospitals provide this which I thought was odd! As it’s only a lower dose right? Has anyone had this ? And does anyone know if st Thomas hospital London provide this by any chance? Thanks all

I'm also curious about this too. I'm with homerton so would be useful to know if they do this there.

@Katy Thanks what hospital was this please that seems really helpful with the button.

I had this when I gave birth at Homerton last August. It helped to numb the pain but I was still able to get up and go to the loo etc soon after the birth so it worked well for me!

@Hannah this is great news!

I’m so sorry, I just remember, I didn’t have mobile epidural. that was the gas. I had the epidural but it wasn’t mobile. I was confused! I’m so sorry!

The button I had to press, was for the gas. I’m silly! That day I was so anxious and tired that I can’t remember precisely.

Haha thanks @Katy !! I will be opting for gas definitely and hopefully mobile epidural if my hospital do it x

What is the good thing about mobile epidural? Is it because instead of giving it in one go, it can be given slowly?

@Katy thats a spinal block your thinking of that’s given all in one, epidural is topped up as needed via a button or automatic pump You should be able to contact the maternity unit of your preferred hospital to ask if they offer a mobile epidural, i also dont know why its not an option everywhere altho i suppose it requires a whole seperate protocol that some hospitals just dont have time to sort out planning of
