Thumb or pacifier

My LO is a little over 3 months and just recently figured out she can suck her thumb. She takes the pacifier when she’s tired and wanting to sleep. Other than that she is preferring her thumb. She constantly spits the pacifier out when I’m putting her down for her naps and goes to her thumb. Anyone else going through this? I know both are hard to break them from, but what do you prefer, pacifier or thumb?

Me 👋🏻My baby girl chooses her thumb over her paci! I’ll give her the paci and she just spits it out and sucks her thumb.

I would pacifier cause you can take a paci away. You can't take their thumb away so it's much harder to break that habit. I unfortunately sucked my thumb till I was almost 7 cause my mom just couldn't get me to stop so she told me to rely on the paci because I can actually take that away

@Marissa I’m definitely trying to get the pacifier in her mouth when she starts to suck her thumb. The only thing I’m concerned about is I have a sitter that will be here full time starting the 1st. I’m hoping she will continue to switch it out, but I may be at a loss because of it. 😑

Yeah it's definitely hard. I wish they wouldn't form either habit but sometimes that's just how it is no matter what we do. Just try your best mama but don't stress too much about it. I sucked my thumb for a long time and turned out fine lol

I'm letting my baby suck his thumb. He hates pacifiers though. He would never take them reliably so this way he can actually sooth! It has made putting him down for naps so much easier

My baby girl found her hand but not her thumb- she wants to suck her hand more so she spits out the paci but she doesn’t have enough control so her hand makes her mad and doesn’t soothe her. It’s a struggle rn 😂

yes! instead of her thumb she’ll use all her fingers lol.. she has always used her pacifier since birth but recently she will spit it out to chew on her hands/fingers and it calms her down. i think around this time they’re discovering their fingers and are curious, i don’t try and force her to move them but i do prop the pacifier next to her and if she feels it she’ll use it ☺️

@Hannah that’s how she was too before finding her thumb.

My son is just like this! As long as his hands are clean, I’ll let him for a bit, as part of their development.

@Tiffany lol it’s the worst!
