Umbilical hernia

Has anyone had this? I said to the midwife on the phone yesterday when they were discharging me baby’s belly button was sticking out. She said it might be an umbilical hernia. It also has a scab. Do I need to do anything about this like contact my health visitor or gp? I’m really worried.

Aww my son had this too. It went down on its own after a couple months. Tummy time helps 💙 Don’t be too worried it’s very common xx

Mine had one for a few months and then it disappeared. I think they wait until a year before doing anything

We're 5 months on Monday and my LB is the same. It is going down slowly though. I believe they go on their own xx

my son looked just like this! went away around 6-7 months

My son had it too when he was born about the same size. His doctor said as long as it’s soft and you can push it in there’s nothing to worry about. Apparently an umbilical hernia is a medical emergency if it’s hard and you can’t push it in. His went down completely before his 4 month appointment.

My little girl had this when she was born, took her to the GP and he said if it doesn’t go down by the time she’s school age then to bring her back. Went down within a couple of months 😁

My 2nd baba had this. Just let gp and hv know about it. They wait until they turn a year because it usually goes way before that xx

My first had this but traditionally she just massage it with a hot towel and it went down. My second is 6 weeks old and she didn’t have it as I have done it from the beginning

Aw I had one when I was a baby & it didn’t go away. Mine was a little bigger. My mom was so worried about the cosmetics/ a little vain so I had surgery at 6 years old! Now I have an innie. My cousin had one a lot smaller than mine and she just kept pushing it in and it just stayed in one day.

My dude had a hernia. It’s gone down on its own. The leaking/scab can be more serious, my paediatrician had us do an ultrasound (we haven’t gotten results yet) to see if the connection between the umbilicus and bladder has closed (I can’t remember the actual term for it). My understanding is that the scab and the hernia aren’t necessarily linked.

Be sure you can push it in. Watch to be sure baby is pooping ok, belly soft. Usually it goes away by 1 as the muscles develop a little more but up to 5 most GPs go with before considering surgery. My sons was huge and he has a little outie now at 8. My niece is 2 and her parents were told as long as you can push it in, wait til 5.

It'll go down as his stomach muscles grow. My baby had a huge hernia. Now it's not even noticeable. Her belly button is normal. She's 3.

The scabs just where the cord fallen off that’ll sort itself in a few days. It does look like an umbilical hernia but most resolve on their own by 1yr. The GP will review it again at your 6-8 week check and then they can review it again normally around 1 to see if additional treatment is needed

I have an umbilical hernia I'm guessing it's not normal in adults?

My baby had this and they told us that they almost all resolve themselves. Sure enough, our bab/ went back in, I think at around 3 or 4 months. If it doesn’t go in it can require surgery but that’s very rare

Its umbeilicak hernia as long as its not hurting your baby its okay my son also have this and doc says nothing to worry about itll go away as he grow up cause when baby is young there ab muscle is not developed so by 1 year itll gone away on its own but if it doesn't then it surgery take place

I’m currently sitting in the children’s hospital in Oxford for just this.. although her stomach is hard and has been crying in pain for the last 24hours.. she’s arching in pain and she’s going all red.. I’ve asked for a ultrasound or X-ray I’m worried they are just going to send me home given how she is.. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My little boy had this. The GP wasn't worried at all and said it would disappear on its own. One day I started noticing that it was smaller and there one minute and gone the next, then back again etc and a few days later it was gone and never came back at all. His was gone when he was 4 months x

Definitely umbilical hernia! Nothing to worry about unless it’s hard. My son had one too, it will go down after several months.

@Rissa yes we were told the same. To monitor it but it should go away on its own. My LO 's sorted itself out by 4 months.
