Potty training help please!

Ok we are on day 1 of potty training. In a rented flat with beige carpets EVERYWHERE. nightmare. Although at least the wee blends in I suppose 🙈 but in all seriousness, I'm not sure if this is going well? This morning he didn't want to sit on the potty or the toilet. At all. Didn't want to wear the pants. We'd been talking about it for a couple of weeks and he'd overall been very resistant to the whole idea. It's now 2pm and he LOVES going to the big toilet and also sitting on the potty. My problem is that he wants to go every 10 minutes. And then he's squeezing out the wee just so he can say "I did it!". It's gone completely the other way to how I thought it would and I'm not sure how to combat this 😂 We've had two big accidents, the first one was first thing this morning and he kept weeing as I carried him in a rush to the bathroom. The second one was a couple hours later and he stopped weeing when he realised and said "I need a wee!" And then finished it on the toilet. We've had a few other small accidents where he's started going in his pants and then has realised, so we are on pants no.8 today. Is this normal? I'm so proud of him for being open to the idea now and he's enjoying using the toilet and the potty which is great, but he keeps wanting to try over and over, but then when he actually needs it he is still doing the first bit of wee in his pants! I haven't got trousers on him but I can't risk a bare bum for the poos 🙈

From what I read, it’s easier to do trousers with no pants first, because pants feel too much like a diaper. It’s normal for them to have a lot of accidents at first! For the carpet, get a bunch of salt. After you use towels, you can dump a pile of salt on the pee and it will absorb the rest of it so it doesn’t soak into your carpet pad. Just let it dry then scrape up what you can and vacuum the rest.
