Bottle before or after meals?

Which are you doing? I always thought it was bottle first and then meals, but I saw another post saying the opposite and it got me thinking.

I heard that around 10 months you are supposed to do solids first, then bottle -- as they are slowly weaning from formula/breastmilk

@Marie good to know! If it’s been 5 hours since she has had a bottle would you still do food first? And then a bottle right after?

I've never heard that but good to know! @Marie I think my little girl would absolutely lose it if I didn't give her a bottle first thing after she woke up so I think I'll keep doing a bottle before breakfast but maybe I'll change it up for the other meals because she really doesn't eat much. I don't remember my other two being like that though or me having to change the bottle schedule.

@Michelle mine would be the same with the first bottle 😆

@Candice how many bottles a day are you doing? To be honest, I don't know! I breastfeed on demand, so it's all very disorganized on my end 🤣 I just try to do some activities that keeps him busy or have him sleep before feeding him solids and then breastfeeding (otherwise he often tries to go for my breasts lol) 5 hours seems like a long time (but I don't know much about formula feeding...). I guess I would give a bottle at that point? Is it possible to do a bit before and a bit after?

Breakfast, lunch and dinner I sit my son in his high chair for food. He usually doesn’t eat that much and we follow with a bottle after. Other times of the day he gets a bottle!

@Marie she does 4-5 bottles a day she will go five hours between bottles but that’s only usually the first bottle at 5:30AM, most of the other times it’s four hours. She is all over the place 🤦🏽‍♀️

@Sammi good to know. My girl loves fruit and snacks 😆

In the morning I do bottle first, then meal, but then we're gone out of the house for a while till lunch, I do lunch first, then bottle to help him nap after. Then another when he wakes up, and another at bedtime. I worry more about scheduling bottles around his nap and sleep than meals and he eats both easily.

Solids then bottle is what I do.

Here we go bottle first and solids later

@Chris M. That’s what I’ve been doing but my girl will not eat as much. So this morning we only have so much time for breakfast otherwise we skip it unless it’s on the go. I gave her breakfast first today and she ate it all then denied her bottle 🤦🏽‍♀️

@Katherine do you skip breakfast? That similar to us, she gets a bottle at 5:30am then we are out of the house until 9:15am. Today I tried breakfast at 9:15 and she ate it all which she rarely does but then denied a bottle 🤦🏽‍♀️

@TeTe how much time between solids and the bottle

@Candice to perfectly honest I just go off her cues. I should have said we do start and end the day with a bottle. But throughout the day we do lunch/snacks/dinner and throw in a bottle here or there if she seems like she’s fussy and hungry after she eats. I’m not the most regimented mom 😂

@TeTe good to know! I think breakfast is our hardest to get in. I switched it up today and she ate all her breakfast for once but then denied her bottle and went to sleep 😂 🤦🏽‍♀️ she has her first bottle at 5:30 and usually does another at 10:30 but I gave her breakfast at 9:15. I swear trying to fit food in plus naps and bottles and play time is harder than I thought.

@Candice wake and bottle at 7ish, breakfast at 8, then out of the house from like 9-9:30 to 11:30-12. 4 bottles, 3 meals, the 2 midday bottles are 4oz and morning and night are 6-8

@Candice hahahah I totally get it. We are surviving on a wing a prayer, but somehow it’s working 😂😂😂. I say as long as she’s fed, getting some sleep and growing you’re winning!
