Formula feeding when out of the house

I’m currently combination feeding but I’m finding it expensive to use pre-made formula when out and about. How do people make up powder formula when they’re out of the house? I looked into the Nuby RapidCool and Tommee Tippee GoPrep but I think they’re far too expensive. My baby isn’t bothered about having his milk warm, it’s more the hygiene aspect that I’m worried about. Any recommendations?

You could make up the bottle just before you go out and let it cool so it’s ready for when you go out. But I really do recommend a rapid cool and flask for when out about. It’s an absolute life saver. Have a look on Facebook market place as there’s some people who sell them brand new x

Asda have the rapid cool flask for £20 at the moment in the baby and toddler event I picked one up yesterday! Then you could just get a regular cheap flask too keep the boiling water in and take both out! Been told so many good things about them! 🥰

I used to put the milk in little pots and and my son had the milk room temp and just used to mix before feed

If it's warm weather where you live I'd just put the water in the bottles and when it's time to feed just add powder to it. Room temp is just fine for them it doesn't have to be warm all the time.

Rapid cool flasks are good but check the instructions as some say once it’s been used it then can’t be used again for a certain amount of hours so it resets so it depends how much baby needs feeding while out and they will still need sterilising after each use

Just buy a normal flask for the hot water, and a normal water bottle for the cooled boiled water

@Kashani this is what I was doing. Just filling the bottles with cooled boiled water and taking the pots of formula separately and mixing when needed. But then I read that cooled boiled water shouldn’t be kept longer than 30 mins so I was second guessing myself.

I take a cool bag with me and take made up bottles with me if I’m only out a few hours x

Nuby rapid cool is the best thing. Take a flask with boiling water and only do a hotshot of boiling water in the bottle add forumla and mix. Rest of water cool it down in nuby and add to bottle

If you have a tkmax look in there. I found one brand new for half the price and gets used regularly

Nuby rapid cool is £20 in Asda at the moment

A flask, with temperature on the lid, on the go formula pots and nuby rapid cool using the hot shot method! We only ever leave the house for a few hours at a time so she only really needs one feed or 2 at a push! If we go to family/friends, I take her formula and a bottle, and just make one up and dump the bottle in a bowl of freezing cold water to cool it faster

@Amyee I saw this but I only own a microwave steriliser so it would mean buying another steriliser to clean it

@Touran not sure but could you sterilise with Milton?

Bottle water. And you can scoop the right amount of formula into any clean container in your home. Or you can easily find/buy one for $5 or less. When baby is hungry just make it as you would at home. Like you said, it’s not warm milk but if your baby doesn’t mind then that’s a win for everyone!!

I saw the Tommee Tippee one in Lidl recently, can’t remember how much. If you know you will use within the 2 hours then can always make it at the house and let it cooldown itself and feed to baby

I travel with a bottle of with warm water and have the travel formula container to add my pre scooped formula. Best thing ever

@Touran you wouldn’t need a new steriliser as if you just use the hot shot method and not actually put formula in the rapid cool flask you don’t need to sterilise just wash with hot soapy water xxx

I put pre boiled, room temperature water in the bottle (we keep a large bottle of pre boiled water on our counter for bottles), and then I put the servings I need into a little container that I’ve run through the sanitizer. I try to pack one extra serving, so if I’m going to an appointment and he probably won’t need a bottle, I’ll pack one up. But if we’ll be out a while and will likely eat, I’ll pack 2.

If you take a pouch of breast milk out with you with hot water in a flask , fill a little cup of hot water, put the packet of breast milk in hot water the milk in the packet takes 20 seconds to heat up then put the milk.into a bottle If i do formula if i know ill need a bottle within an hour i have made up.a bottle at home before then that will be perfect temperature

I rely on…. • A bottle warmer which will keep the bottle ok for 4 hours • a rapid cool if I’m out for longer (but I actually don’t use it as much as I thought I would) • my friend takes cooled boiled water out from home, then asks whichever cafe she’s in or friends house for a boiled hot shot to mix the formula with.

@Touran oh really!? I didn’t have any issues but I know for next time

2 small flasks, one with boiling water and one with cooled boiled water. Use the hot shot method. X

@Touran this is where it gets confusing I heard ,that the water needs to be a certain temperature to kill off bacteria in the powered milk ...when we are out I ask for some boiled water and then pour in the bottle then put powder over the top ,and wait for it to cool down ...or I just ready make premade formula it can be stored up to 24hrs in your fridge so you could make a whole day's worth and take what you need with you x

Pre measured formula in pots, flask of boiling water, bottle of cold boiled water. 1oz boiling water with the powder then top up with the cold water to needed amount

So my formula tins said that formula must be made with hot water to kill off any bacteria, so I would make up a fresh hot bottle and put it in a bottle bag and 8/10 times it was cool enough by the time he was due bottle. If it wasn't quite cool enough then doesn't take much to run it under a cold tap for a min or 2

Cool boiled water is safe for up to 24h so I take that out with me and use the containers for 4oz scoops. I use 1oz boiled water as a hot shot and top up 3oz from my cool boiled water
