Lowering the curtain during c section

Out of curiosity if you’ve asked for the drape to be lowered when your baby is pulled out how much do you actually see? I’m contemplating asking for it with my next section but I’m worried I’ll be squeamish but then I’m also like surely from where I’ll be lied I won’t actually be able to see much anyway apart from baby? My first was an emergency c section so didn’t get any choice in these things and was just shown once she was out so thinking it could be nice this time round

I had it lowered and tbh I can’t remember actually seeing anything gory just remember seeing my little girl 🤍 On all my pictures you can obviously see over the drapes when he pulled her out so it’s more afterward when looking through photos I think you see it ✨

Ah that’s good to know. I’m not usually too squeamish with other people but I think it’s the thought of seeing my own insides that freaks me out 😂 see on the pics from my first you couldn’t actually see anything because of the way the bright lights were reflecting

Just baby from like head to tummy is all i could see but it was very surreal 🥰. Very glad i opted for it. My first was an EMCS too so felt very spoilt for choice this time too haha!

@Caz thank you! Think I’ll mention it to my partner and see what he thinks

I was offered it and they gave warning so partner could be ready with camera! X

@Kayleigh that’s good to know. The midwife took my phone for my emergency one and took pics for us which was nice as I wasn’t expecting to get any with it being emergency

I had my midwife and anaesthetist taking photos, if you can make sure you have Live Photos on as it’s so special as you can hear what’s said too ✨

@Tamsyn good idea! Definitely will do

They lowered it in mine but I couldn't actually see anything but i dont think i was looking as i was so distracted by them lifting our little girl up for us to see and finding out her gender. The midwife did film it all though and I'm surprisingly okay with seeing what I can see especially as I'm so squeamish usually. Xc

They lowered it but I didn’t see anything from my flat position other than baby girl and her cord. Daddy didn’t see anything gory from his position and the midwife took video and photos and you cannot see my body parts or gore at all xx

@Sarah that’s good to know. I asked my partner and he wants to see all the gory stuff 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

@Jess I mean, if he goes to cut the cord and looks back at you from the other side… he’ll get the view of his life. Fair warning, my OH didn’t realise that in the moment and get the whole show when coming back to me with baby 🤣

I didn’t have it lowered but a lovely midwife took a video with my husband’s phone and I’m so happy about it! Love watching the moment my daughter was born… The surgeon even said “happy birthday!” to her as she was pulling her out! 😄🩷

@Sarah hahaha he got to go trim the cord last time but I think he was still in shock from the whole emergency thing that he probably didn’t even think to look 😂

@Isabel aw that sounds good. We just got pics they didn’t take any videos but I might ask for videos!

i didn’t see a thing, they just held it down a little and showed me my baby girl xx

I had it lowered and you don’t see anything horrible. They get baby’s head out first and then lower it so you just see the baby from like head to tummy. I had my midwife taking lots of pics for me xx

I saw nothing just the baby but my partner stood up to take the pictures. The midwives were like noo don't stand up take it from sitting down. He was too excited to take in what they were saying and he is 6'2 😭🙈 so I cannot look at those pictures because it's horrific. I had to make him promise not to send them to anyone either no one has the right to see my innards. He has to be briefed for next time! Tbf it was an emergency c section and he was not prepared for this type of birth What I actually saw was really nice. Also you see all these perfect operating theatre pics online all these influencers in full make up it'd not realistic. My face was red from crying. The surgery hair net is not flattering. So manage your expectations! You'll get nice pics once you've had an hour or two to recover a bit from major surgery

Also we waited for birth to find out the gender so they held him very high and we saw him head to toe. Not that I literally cared about that at all in that moment I was just glad he was white not blue and waiting for the cry ❤️

I dont remember being given this option, I wonder if I'll be offered it this time (3rd)
