Overhang sweat and smell

Hi, I’m 5 weeks and 5 days pp. I am plus size and having an issue in my overhang crease which is just above my C-section. The crease has gone white-ish, I’ve been trying to get rid of this with just water and it’s not working. After a shower it doesn’t smell as much but it starts to smell, almost like a damp Smell. I’ve recorded it with my phone and I can see tiny white dots with flash. Should I be worried, do I need to call the GP?

I’d call doctor to just incase but after my c section a midwife told me to lay on my bed, lift my belly up and air dry my c section with the fan on. Keep it dry by putting a pad on your pants so the sticky part is on the front of your pants and the other part is against your c section. Try to air it out as much as you can, even by buying a little hand fan and laying down lifting your belly and using the fan x

I use a wet maternity pad over it in the shower, then use the shower head to rinse it, then I use the cold setting on my hair dryer to dry it fully and air it as much as I can. Would call the gp to check though cause I had a fair few infections and that’s what they recommended after antibiotics x

I had really bad sweat rash and started to clean around my scar with baby sensitive dove soap with its own flannel I then would dry it and use a hairdryer to dry the area properly and used a long vest top I qas wearing and tucked it under my over hang this would collect the sweat I tried a Sanitary towel and tissue and the towels were to rough they rubbed and hurt me more and the tissue got stuck 🙈 You can get your gp to check as you may need antibiotic cream to help clear it also

Just got back from the GP. They said to just keep it clean. He said to use mild soap and a thin layer of moisturiser. I went after a shower so it was looking okay ish. I did also show a photo of how it gets bad.

@Hannah I use a handheld fan too! I think I will have two showers a day now. It looks okay after a shower. Just need to keep on top of keeping it dry. I did initially use the pad method and it worked great but at some point it felt itchy. I might give it another go. Which pads do you use ? I used the Tesco thin maternity towels as they were super thin and there was no texture on the actual pad so minimal Irritation.

@Chloe so the wet maternity pad helps clean it? That’s such a good idea. Thanks xx

@Emma-louise I’ve been wondering what cleanser to get. How many weeks pp did you start using the baby sensitive dove soap? Thank you for tips !!

I was only about 2.5 weeks pp I did it around my scar until around 5weeks then did it on my scar to keep it clean I found this really helped to keep the area clean for me

I’d keep an eye on it, mine was the same and then started to get painful and I ended up having an infection 🙃

@Jackie how many weeks post partum were you when this happened? When you say it got infected, did the wound weep or bleed?

I used a maternity pad as well I think I used Tesco or Sainsbury ones, they were just nicer cushioned on my scar then normal pads ! I used to have a shower in the morning cause of night sweats then a night shower cause of day time sweat 😂x

I was 6 or 7 weeks PP. it wasn’t the wound itself, it was just around it because of my overhang, I think they said it was fungal. It didn’t weep or bleed, just red with white and a terrible smell!

So, I was told to put surgical gauze in the crease to keep dry & I rinsed with a saline rinse everyday in addition to that.

@Alexis I’ve been looking for sterile surgical gauze for this purpose. Is there one you recommend?

@Jackie how long did it take to go away?
