The dilemma of a night time nappy change

Do I feed first so they don’t cry, but will chunder on themselves pretty much as soon as I put them down, or do I change straight away and often cry so much they wee everywhere and end up needing a full outfit &sleeping bag change…? At what point can I leave it the whole night and they not leak through the nappy?

My little one is 9 weeks now and I choose to feed after changing at night as it helps send her back to sleep, while changing wakes her up! Unfortunately can't help on how soon you'll be able to leave nappy changes at night....at the moment I've noticed that if I go more than 4ish hours without changing ours then she's at risk of leaking 😢

I only change for poos (always done this) I use pampers nappies overnight and they don’t leak x

If I feed before, I’ll need to feed after as well. It takes an extra 15 mins or so of valuable sleep time, but I’ve had so many times now of noticing the changing table is wet as I’m doing up the new nappy and having to wipe up and change everything, all while she is screaming!

I always change before as she’s pretty much asleep by the end of her feed. I take the sleeping bag off completely and put it to the side so she can’t wee on it but then I don’t put her back in it till after her feed. Urine scalding is definitely a thing so I choose to always change her if she wakes

I don’t change unless it’s a poo! I also use pampers nappies - little one was in his for over 12 hours last night and it was only a little damp on the outside even though it was super full!!

@Katherine how long can you leave it? Mine is 11 weeks and on size 2 mamia (Aldi) nappies now. She never poos in the night so thankfully I haven’t had to deal with that yet, or maybe it happened once? I usually leave her 5-6 hours overnight, sometimes stretch it a bit further if I’m feeling risky, but a couple of times the nappy has ended up too full that it can’t absorb any more and had to deal with a wet bed as well

I’d also be interested if anyone can share how reusable nappies stack up overnight as we are thinking of switching soon

my baby is very similar, if i change him after a feed, he needs to feed again because he’s got himself so worked up and upset by changing, but then by feeding him again he will 💩 again, so i have to change him again and the cycle goes on and on and on😂🫠

i find pampers harmonie nappies the best i’ve used so far, he is only 4 weeks :)

I always changed before in the night as it helps them go down faster, I’d say if it’s just abit wet don’t worry and just feed, I found pampers for night are the best and sometimes size up for nights as they hold more in! You’ll get into a pattern when you know you can not change their nappy deffo! X

She generally goes 12 hours in the same nappy overnight without a change and it’s always still very dry. Pampers only brand that has allowed this. We use bambino mio reusable nappies in the day, which I love, but still use pampers for night time or long days out

Thanks everyone, will look into getting some pampers asap!!

I changed inbetween sides. Feed one side, change nappy, feed other side. Seemed to work a treat. Then around 3 months I stopped changing him overnight unless he pooped.

I change first, then feed. Easier to get him to sleep faster. At 13 weeks we're still using the lupilu nr.2. I always change him before for every feed at night.

I feel like, when mine was diddy, I used to only change a poo at night and normally it was before I fed them.

Definitely change first, they soon learn seeing mummy/daddy means food if they cry and to be patient but if you feed them into a near sleep state or sleep… you’ll regret that choice 😂🙈

Have you tried a size 3 of a night time? My little one has always had Aldi and we can go for 12 hours with no issues. We were getting wet through with size 2 then tried a size 3
