Eating salad in Belgium / France - how worried should I be about toxo?!

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and just been away to France and Belgium for the easter holidays. I'm vegetarian so didn't find these countries easy to find food in and most of the time stuck to pizzas and fried foods. However, my body doesn't respond well to not eating fruit / veg so I also had several salads and things like smoothie bowls, plus when I ordered eg a veggie lasagne it came garnished with rocket and fresh herbs. On coming home and speaking to a pregnant friend who was recently in France - not veggie - she said "and of course, its hard because you can't eat unwashed fruit/ veg/ salad / herbs". I hadn't heard this and now I'm really panicking. How worried should I be? What I'm reading also suggests that this would be *the* worst stage to get it in terms of likelihood of impacting baby. Is there anything I can do / if I message my midwife will she care or be able to do anything or just think I'm worrying over nothing as maybe she won't know the French / Belgian guidance?!

Please don’t panic. The same goes for any fruit and veg, even in the UK. It’s not a France / Belgium thing or issue. It’s just a precaution because unwashed fruit and veg can have bacteria on it, but the chances of that happening are still really slim. Also, most restaurants do wash their fruit and veg cause no one wants to run the risk of serving food with mud or flies on it. X

From what I've read the advice *is* different in France and Belgium (and Spain too and maybe some others) in that they are actively told by doctors to avoid any unwashed fruit / veg in restaurants when pregnant, whereas we aren't? I presumed this was about toxo prevalence in eachh country.

You have to remember that in France pregnant women also eat lots of unpasteurised cheeses but here we dont- every country is different but they will have been held to proper EU standards- any risk of anything like this is so so low- I would also imagine in France and Belgium they would have higher levels of hygiene due to EU laws. Personally I wouldnt bother contacting the midwife as Im 100% sure she will tell you not to worry BUT if it makes you feel better always contact and sat at home worrying is the last thing you need ❤️
