6 weeks too early for a scan?

NHS have booked a reassurance scan for us on Mon 22nd but I really can’t be bothered to wait and am thinking to book a private scan on Friday when I should be 6 weeks on the dot. But I am nervous that 6 weeks is too early and if the scan doesn’t pick up a heartbeat just yet it’ll make me panic 😅. Wait or book?

I went at 6 weeks but was earlier than I thought and it caused so much unnecessary worry. If you can I’d defo try and wait an extra week or two x

@Katy what a difference a week makes! Thank you for sharing. That is so helpful x

@Yasmin this is my fear! Ive had a mmc before so it’d give a horrible deja vu feeling. Maybe waiting is the right thing to do! X

@Marissa so lovely you saw a heartbeat so early on! And reassuring! Yes I think waiting is probably the right thing to do. Save unnecessary stress! 7 weeks we will have definitive news, it just feels forever away!

I had mine 6 weeks exactly and baby had strong heartbeat ☺️

I was sure of my dates though as IVF might be more risky if going off ovulation x

I would definitely try to wait a little longer - 6 weeks on the dot is the absolute earliest they’d recommend a reassurance scan, but you may well be a few days either side of that so it’s definitely safer to wait until around 7 weeks. I was meant to be 6+5 when I went for mine but was measuring more like 6+2 so I’m really glad I didn’t go any earlier. Just remember baby is around the size of a jelly bean at 6 weeks so it’s really difficult to scan something so tiny! Wishing you all the best ❤️

I’d maybe wait a week after 6 weeks. However, I went for a scan at what I thought was 6 weeks and turned out we were just under 6 weeks. We were travelling for 3 weeks so I just wanted to make sure all was okay. We heard the heartbeat.

I would say 8 weeks is good time to have an early scan. Then your likely to see the heartbeat.

I just did a 7+4 private scan bc they messed up my appointments and I won’t likely get one until after 10w this time. 7+4 thru could hear a strong heart beat and could get a picture externally and a great one internally. I’m glad I got one early and now seeing the 6w scans I’m glad I had one a little later.

We thought I was 8 weeks along and went in for an ultrasound I turned out to only be 6 weeks and they did do an ultrasound and saw the fluid sack (I think is what my OB called it) we couldn’t see baby just the fluid sack and I honestly think it did make my anxiety worse, I go in Friday as I’m now 8 weeks for a new ultrasound and I would recommend waiting for an ultrasound but you could set up an appointment to get blood work done!

@Alejandra how did your scan go on Friday?
