Nursery settling advice

Our 3 year old has started his second week at nursery (only part time two long mornings a week). It's his first time in a formal setting away from family and he's having a real wobble this week. I know this is totally normal and will likely settle over time but wondering how people approached it? He's very tearful before and at nursery and when he's home he repeatedly says he's missed us 🥹 We've tried taking his favourite soft toy today who helps him feel brave but it caused issues when another child wanted to play with it. Hope someone can offer some wisdom!

I had the same. My now 3 year old goes to nursery for full days just 2 days a week and he is so outgoing and social but he would get so upset and burst into tears at drop off and also tell us he didn’t want to go to nursery all the time for the rest of the week. We just kept reassuring, I drew a heart on his inside arm so he knew mummy and daddy love him and for sound of the week we would make something together so he had something to show the person at the door. Just acknowledge their feeling but remind them that they have fun (we knew nothing untoward was happening at nursery) and after a few weeks they’re fine. My LO just struts into nursery now. It just takes them a while because it’s a new setting with loads of new people and things. ❤️

Hello I am a former provider here 👋🏽 he will adjust it takes time. Eventually he will love to go to care but sometime it takes children a few weeks even longer it just depends on the child . I had a kiddo who cried for 3 months on and off I had her for about 2 years until she went to TK

@Celeste thanks this is reassuring to read and sounds similar to us. First week he was eager to go and actually asked for mummy and daddy to leave the minute we got there! But this week he's definitely not keen. I love the heart on his arm idea, will try this tomorrow

@sharon thanks for this - hoping it takes us less than 3 months! ❤️

Totally normal ! He’s noticing the daycare schedule . When I got new students nap time wasn’t their favorite lol so getting use to a structured schedule can be a little difficult starting off .

7 months in and still hates going, cries her eyes out and they have too prize her off of me everytime I go, I hate it

@Jaz hope things get better for you ❤️
