I was terrified about this and was in established labour when I got to the hospital and there was no way I could have walked up on my own. Somehow we managed to get a spot in the east block car park which was ideal. If I remember right my husband went and moved it in the morning and it was absolutely fine but that was less than 24 hours. If there aren’t spaces and you’re able to get in on your own I’m sure there’s a car park just behind the east block car park which is outside of the hospital so he could always park there temporarily. We had to stay in the a couple of days due to low birth weight so my husband insured his mum on our car and ran down and gave her the keys and she took the car home because I was stressing about parking costs 🤣
This has genuinely not crossed my mind yet 🙈 but a very valid question - I’m sure if you’re screaming they will wheelchair you in (I live in hope)
Assume he can drop me off, I’d just like to make sure he doesn’t miss anything either! But no doubt my labour will be nice and long so it’ll be fine and I’m sure I’m worrying about nothing 😂
@Hope I will let you know when I go in if that helps x
@Rachael thanks!! Although I’m sure you’ll have plenty of other things on your plate! Haha! Good luck with everything 😊
Thank you! You too
I was in active labour with my daughter born July 2022 for under 4 hours. I was 9cm dilated when we got to QMC. Thought I had plenty of time as my waters hadn’t gone. We parked at the front entrance and he walked me round then had to quickly go out to find space to park. Everything progressed very quickly for me but he didn’t miss anything. Try not to stress❤️xx
That’s great to hear thanks @Mollie
The midwife told me to write a note saying “dropping off to labour ward” on your dash so if you need to leave car at main entrance but no spaces Then birth partner can take you through to labour ward & once a midwife has got you then partner can go back & sort the car The midwife should say like yes no worries you can go sort the car you won’t miss anything or whatever depending what stage you’re at. I ended up getting induced so I was okay but it was nice to know that if it was panic panic in labour, that you can kind of “dump car” til he can get you to midwife of that makes sense?
If you go to the front of the hospital (the bit above A&E) there are dedicated labour ward drop off bays. I'm not sure how long you'd be able to leave the car there, but you can definitely get in that way. There is a parking warden office at the entrance, so they might be able to tell you? You'd hope they wouldn't give him a ticket if you're in labour... but I wouldn't count on it! Closest parking from there is probably the East Block parking (but that entrance is currently closed - I was there today).
