Midwives

I was assigned a midwife but I've met her twice. And she's just been reassigned elsewhere! So I'll have a new person next time. I'm 26 weeks in and find it very odd to have zero consistency. It's not like the other midwives I've met have been the same people. Anyone else experienced this? I understand the NHS is stretched etc but this seems like a weird way to monitor a very important part of our pregnancy journey.

Towards the end of my pregnancy, I had to go to the hospital and saw different midwives! Wasn't the best as they didn't know me, etc, but at least I got seen! X

@Zoe very good point. I guess I'm happy to see anyone, but just wondered what was normal

For me, it was normal. Even after I gave birth, I never saw my original midwife x

Very normal. Midwives work different days so depending on the day of your appointment you’ll see someone else

I’ve found that after the half way point, you tend to have a bit more consistency with the midwife you see. Having said that for my first two pregnancies I probably only saw the same midwife for maybe 3 appointments. It never really bothered me as I never found the care to be lacking and you have a different midwife for the birth anyway.

I’m in Bracknell, and 23 weeks, not actually met the midwife I was assigned yet. Had different people for my first couple of appts so unsure if I will meet her at 25 week appt

Throughout my pregnancy I had 4 different midwife's and went to 3 different centres. They're so busy they just try to get an appointment for you wherever they can. Just a resourcing problem unfortunately

I hardly ever had the same midwife twice

Thanks ladies, at least I'm not alone!

Happened to me too. I had one for my 8 week, she text me to say her workload was full and passed me over to someone else. Both useless, no communication and every question I ask my answer is ‘speak to your GP’ 😂🙃 like what’s the point of you then?!?

I only saw the same person twice around half way through my pregnancy. Other than that it was a different person each time. Had loads cancelled and changed last minute. Wasn’t what I was expecting but I guess it just shows what a state the nhs is in xx

So I seen some Midwife in the hospital I believe around 8-9 weeks then 16 weeks in the centre- she told me she works only Tuesdays and Thursday. I’ve contacted her on about 3 occasions when I needed something from her without any response. I am supposed to see her I believe next week(I’ll be 27weeks) so we shall see if it’s still the same woman 🤣🤣🤣

Im 33 weeks pregnant and ive seen a different midwife at every single appointment so far. And I was told that the midwife who will be there when I give birth with also be someone new that I've never met before. So I guess that's normal 🤷🏻‍♀️

I saw one midwife twice and every other time was a new person. Only way you can reliably have a consistent midwife is to go private I believe! One of the student midwives at my local midwifery centre was doing a dissertation on consistency of care as it’s such a big problem and she was shadowing mothers (with their permission) to help provide that consistency along the journey as she attended every appointment. It was so much nicer having her there as she worked alongside the ever changing midwife. I did however, then give birth elsewhere so had different midwives for my delivery. It’s the norm.
