Fasting Second Trimester

Im 18 weeks pregnant and for my whole life I’ve done intermittent fasting, usually 16:8 or even 18:6.. i was reading today that fasting is not recommendwd during pregnancy as it might increase the risk to preterm labor and its not good for your baby. i do get hungry now in the mornings, which didnt use to happen before pregnancy cause my body was used to not eating ubtil latwr in the day. Can anyone please tell me if its harmful for my baby? should i stop fasting at least while im pregnant? Help, im anxious now 😭

You should definitely stop, it can be very detrimental to baby’s healthy and growth. Even women who fast for religious reasons are encouraged not to and are “exempt” in the eyes of God. I’m sure baby is fine because first trimester baby doesn’t need that much but second and third trimester are super important for growth.

I’m sure baby is fine right now but I would definitely start eating regular (in not smaller more frequent meals), especially if you’re hungry!

Absolutelyyyyy

You should talk to your OB. Mine was fine with IF as long as I tracked calories and made sure to hit or exceed my daily amount. The other risk is your blood pressure dropping too low, so if you ever felt woozy you should change things up. Either way, talk to your OB! Mine was super easygoing.

I used to intermittent fast and was told to stop. I had to eat anyways because my first trimester I had hyperemesis which caused anemia. Then in my second trimester I had dizzy spells and would throw up if I don’t eat. Then rn, if I don’t eat one meal I’m out for the whole day. So eat.

Fasting, even intermittent, was presented to me as a pretty hard no. And if you’re hungry, it’s a major no to fast through that - those are natural cues from your body and baby that you need to fuel up.

@Grace thank you!!

@Fionna I never said I wasn’t eating 🤦‍♀️🫣

@Gigi you posted a thought and question so I answered. Don’t be obtuse, obviously eat more than what you’re presently eating. Yikes. Obviously you need it. Have a nice pregnancy.

@Indy im sorry, I don’t understand your response 🤷‍♀️ I need concise answers 🫣

while pregnant & breastfeeding then you should eat if you get hungry. i used to unintentionally intermittent fast before getting pregnant but my body literally won’t let me during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. but i’ve also noticed that early morning hunger is sometimes just thirst.

Yes you absolutely should stop, especially if you read research saying it's dangerous.

I used to fast until anywhere between 12-3 before I got pregnant but my first pregnancy I was starving in the morning and would get super nauseous on an empty stomach 🙃
