Antidepressants

So I’ve had a check up with the doctor and she’s said that with me taking mirtazipine it’s not the best to take while pregnant and the baby will have to stay in hospital for a few days to be monitored as it can make the baby extra sleepy🥹now I have only been given two other options sertraline and citalopram I’ve been on sertraline before and had to come off them because I had serotonin syndrome and I had been on citalopram for 7 years and had to change to what I’m on now due to them not working anymore it’s not possible for me to go on a higher dose as I had the worst headaches and bad heart pains from that! Has anyone else been in my position I’m panicking now I don’t know what to do I can’t not be on anything but Im also now thinking of baby and it’s wellbeing♥️

I was on Sertraline when pregnant with my second and I was told the same as you, that my baby had to be monitored for a few days after birth in case of withdrawal. I don’t know what else would be any better but I am currently now in Eschitalopram so maybe you could ask your dr about this and see if that is a good fit for you and baby. Good luck x

I’m on sertraline now, have been for 7 years they haven’t said anything to me about baby needing to be monitored after birth or anything like that. 36+4 today x

Withdrawals are usually really minor and can be drowsiness and sneezing. Maybe some tremors but a lot of babies do that anyway. They usually keep babies in for 48 hours if parents are on antidepressants. Try not to panic and worry. A tiny amount will go to baby and I’ve met babies withdrawing from crack and heroin who still only have sneezes and tremors. Some worse obviously but most are okay!

Heya! How come fluoxetine is not an option? It's super pregnancy safe and usually the first line of treatment for anxiety and depression.

I’m currently on venlafaxine and they’re safe whilst pregnant, ask your doctor if there are any more you can try before going back to ones you know don’t work x

@Stacey oh really that’s not bad then thank you! Xx

@Rose nooo it’s mirtazipine it needs to be monitored with I was saying the other two are the ones she asked if I would take instead x

I’m on sertraline and have been all the way through my pregnancy. I was not told that I had to be monitored etc. the midwife even said if I need to go up then do so. My LO is now 5 months old and doing perfectly. ☺️ I honestly put my positive motherhood journey/experience down to taking sertraline. I hope you get the help you need. X
