Heartlands push for c sections?

So I had the most perfect pregnancy and knew my body was made for having a baby. However one day near the end of my pregnancy I had a phone call from heartlands hospital (whilst I was out food shopping), they said my baby is way too big and there’s a high risk of complications so they would like to book me in for a c section. This was the first I had heard of this. I was in total shock. I then asked if I could just be induced instead to which he responded ‘the baby is already too big so that’s not a good idea’. I went on to say this is all too much and such a shock that I need time to make a decision, he replied ‘I can give you 10 minutes but the decision needs to be made’. I sat in Morrisons cafe and had a good think and thought I must trust the doctors and what they have to say. He rang back 15 minutes later and I agreed to the c section. They made me have the c section 2 weeks before due date and baby come out at 7lb 7oz. My LO is now almost 8 months old but I can’t stop thinking of how I was treated and pressured into a c section that I didn’t need. Has anyone else had this kind of experience at heartlands hospital?

Have you got a date for a c section? If so you can call and cancel it. NICE guidelines already state baby’s size isn’t a good reason enough to be induced, let alone undergo a c section. Have they gone through the risk of a c section before telling you to make a decision? I’d be VERY wary with headlands and they gave me an injection without my consent(I’m in the process of putting a complaint theough) Just tell them you want a second opinion and change hospital. Feel free to message me for more advice on how to stand your grounds!! I’m happy to help as I don’t want anyone going through this xxx

Not to mention scans aren’t accurate for baby’s size and there’s an error margin of 15% . Tell them you don’t want to hear of a c section until 42 weeks

I’ve already had my baby but I think the trauma of the c section makes me think about it every day, multiple times! The fact he didn’t give me the choice of being induced and pressured me into a c section. I did ring back at the time and asked for a second opinion and went to Solihull hospital to speak to another doctor, whom agreed with the doctor at heartlands (not sure if they all stick together?). When I then spoke to the heartlands doctor again he seemed angry that I asked for a second opinion! They scared me soooo much into the c section, explaining baby’s shoulders are highly likely to get stuck during natural birth. I asked what’s the safest form of delivery for the baby and they said c section 😔 wish I had just trusted my body and ignored the doctors!

Best thing I can say is ask for your maternity notes, then read the NICE guidelines: they will tell you wether it was necessary or not. Then from that you can book an appointment with a midwife (maybe go to someone indépendant or even private if you can) and they will go through what happened and if there’s no reason for which you had a c section I’d complain/ sue. 🤍 I’m so sorry this happened to you, I’m in the same boat. Feel free to chat if you need p

Thank you for the advice! How do I request my maternity notes? Do I just ring the hospital?
