Tinzaparin injections duration after delivery

Hi ladies! I left hospital with 6 weeks worth of daily Tinzaparin injections after blood loss during forceps & episiotomy delivery. I hate injections so my husband is having to do these for me. I’m 4 weeks in so nearly there but am struggling when the time comes around to inject. My health visitor seemed shocked and said usually people only have these for 10 days. I’m going to stick out what was prescribed ( there will be a reason for such a large duration, I just wasn’t given any info other than blood loss) but wanted to see if anyone else has had this, or also if there are any tips for a needle-phobe to make the stinging post-jab more bearable?

You’re doing so well to have made it 4 weeks already! 6 weeks is fairly standard if you have had some kind of complication during birth. It’s either 10 days or 6 weeks depending on certain criteria. They are supposed to help reduce the risk of developing blood clots. They are awful to do on yourself so keep getting help from your husband if possible. I also found icing the area beforehand helped quite a bit. My midwife advised to alternate sides each day so that one side didn’t get too sore and bruised. I must admit I couldn’t finish the whole 6 weeks, my skin was in too much agony from them on top of the pain from an emergency section and I had shingles at the time too. Good luck x

Thanks both! The way my health visitor seemed really confused made me think it was unheard of for 6 weeks of jabs!

I got 6 weeks of them too. Oh 680ml blood loss from a c-section but was told it's because it was my second one I needed 6 weeks rather than the 10 days I was given after my first. I find squeezing my flesh tightly like the instructions really helps make it painless- not nice when I've forgotten! It's 6 weeks of compression stockings that is driving me nuts!!

@Rachel I think I’d like 920ml so it’s definitely making sense now why I was given 6 weeks of jabs! … no compression socks though 🤔

Pharmacy Technician here 🙋🏼‍♀️ yes 6 weeks is a standard course, it’s based on a scoring systems with your individual risk factors! I’ve been on them all throughout pregnancy and for 6 weeks after due to previous blood clots.. 2weeks to go, I cannot wait 😂!! x
