Breastfeeding and alcohol

Silly question- but I bought a sticky toffee pudding from a local market and just noticed it has cointreau in it. I'm breastfeeding exclusively so I really don't know if I can eat it or not! Online says so many different things haha! Does anyone know?

Yes you can absolutely eat it, it’s like wine in risotto, the alcohol is cooked out and is absolutely not going to get into your milk.

Apparently as long as you don't go overboard with it, only something like 0.05% of the alcohol content makes it into your milk, which is the same % as a banana and many other things! I think the bigger reason for not drinking is more being able to look after baby - that being said, I'm no professional and am also hesitant to drink anything myself lol

@Alix liqueur in food is not the same as drinking it directly

There’s a post here by an IBCLC with reassuring information about alcohol & breastfeeding: https://www.instagram.com/p/CcfCM1nDc8z/?igsh=MTA0ZjllNzRqeWZyZQ== You’d need to be over 3x the drink drive limit for it to have an effect on the baby, which definitely won’t happen with alcohol in food.

One of my midwives said a glass of wine with dinner whilst breastfeeding would be fine.
