Lip and tongue tie release

My 2.5 month old just had hers released yesterday. Is it normal for them to start wailing when it's feeding/nap/bedtime? Photo of her practicing her sucking with her new tongue!

Hi, my baby had his tongue and lip ties release a little over a year ago and honestly for a few weeks afterwards it was really not easy and I don’t feel like the people that did the procedure set realistic expectations about that. It took him a while to learn how to use the new mobility he had with his tongue and lips also I’m not sure if they’re having you do the stretches, but I had to do the stretches for his tongue and lip after every feeding which I was nursing him constantly back then and that was super not easy. He didn’t really learn how to breast-feed well for a couple weeks to a month after the procedure and we did take him to see a cranial sacral therapist twice, and she helped work on releasing his tongue and lip area even further. All this to say that for us it was a process in the end. I am so glad that we did it because I’m still breast-feeding him at 15 months old and I don’t know that I would’ve been able to keep breast-feeding him without getting the releases done

@Lisa thank you! They are having me do the exercises 5 times a day, no longer than 7hrs apart. I feel like she will be struggling for a while.. once she's latched she's okay but absolutely refuses a bottle :(

My son had a lip and tongue tie but they only cut the tongue tie. Did you have this done at hospital? I went private and they only do the tongue and was told the dentist will decide about the lip when it’s necessary. Now I’m wondering if i should look into getting his lip tie cut too!

Yea, I agree with Lisa; they did not set realistic expectations at my dentist either. I have twins and one is struggling more than the other but they were definitely in pain (dentist told me there would be no pain). The stretches are brutal for 2 weeks and then they started being okay. One took the bottle back no problem and the other was difficult to feed for a couple weeks. Hang in there!

@Emma they never did anything for her mouth at the hospital. My Dr never looked. I figured it out myself and made an appointment with a pediatric dentist. They did both.
