I'm having trouble getting my little one to eat with a spoon/fork

My little one has shown some moderate delays. We're in a program called babies can't wait and she's advancing well. However, one of the things she struggles with is using utensils. I've tried everything I know to do. She gets impatient, throws the spoon or fork and uses her hands. Usually won't even try. My mom said some kids just don't bother because they genuinely aren't ready.

How old is she?

Many kids don’t use utensils that well until age 2. And even then they may switch back and forth with using their hands. Some of the utensils for babies and toddlers really aren’t that great at picking up food so I’m sure it gets really frustrating for them. Metal prongs on the fork or a metal spoon seem to work better - you can still find kid sized ones with a plastic handle or whatever.

@Melissa a year and 9 months.

@GMF her only problem with metal utensils, specifically forks, is she stabs herself in the gums and it pisses her off.

My son turned 2 in March and just now started using a fork

My son is 2 in May and he sometimes uses a fork or spoon, even then it's a hit or miss.

@Allison I wouldn’t be giving her a metal fork it seems a bit dangerous for a child under the age of 2/3 years old. Why don’t you try her with a plastic one instead that you can get from Amazon but also I wouldn’t be too worried as children don’t really start using utensils until they are around 2 years old x

She has all kinds of plastic forks and spoons. And everyone keeps telling me she'll use it in time. It just takes patience

My daughter is also a year and 9 months and yes she does use utensils but I often find her using her hands, it’s still all about texture aswell as maybe they just don’t want to or not ready yet, I personally wouldn’t worry
