My child hates tummy time

Anyone else’s baby hate tummy time ? No matter what I do he hates it. He’s 2 months old and his head isn’t fully supported on his own , he will hold it up for a few seconds though until he gets tired then he puts it down. I just don’t wanna cause developmental delays because he refuses to do tummy time to make his body stronger! Any ideas what to do?

Show your support

Even after changing their nappy and rolling them over to their front for 5 minutes is enough. Or a chest hug with you propped up right, or hold baby on your should when walking around so they support their neck. Doesn’t need to be bells and whistles with pillows and toys xx

You won’t cause delays if you don’t do it that much. Most babies don’t like it. And 5-10mins of tummy time every is more than enough, they don’t need tons of tummy time. Both my kids didn’t like it and they were fine. I actually didn’t do much tummy time with my son. You can tries laying down with your baby or having toys to keep entertained but 2-5mins per day is fine

My baby hated tummy time so to be totally honest we never really did it on the floor. He’s hit all his milestones as expected. Have baby on your chest or baby wear, that counts! x

You can do tummy time on your chest too and talk to him, most babies love that play time with parents

My baby hated it at the beginning and would scream the place down whenever we tried…even at baby groups when other babies were also doing it, then one day it just clicked and she was fine with it. Don’t panic, they all do things at different times and just takes practice!

2 months and mine hates it too lol. But he does lift his head when he’s on mychrst or when I’m holding him faced towards the floor with my arm across his tummy. Sometimes he will do a few mins on the ground if I have his light up toy

After talking to my son’s doctor about how much he hates tummy time she told me that laying down with him on my chest face down is the same. He prefers that more than actually laying down on the bed or the floor and he still lifts his head to look around.

Holding baby over your shoulder, on your chest, or football style has the same impact as tummy time. My baby won’t do tummy time on the floor very long but mirrors, high contract cards, and books have helped prolong her time there

My 2 month old hates it but can sit in the chair (Pic below) she likes to sit up

Try tummy time on your chest! My baby hated tummy time on the floor because all he wanted to do was be on me, so my husband and I just did tummy time on our chests and now he can hold his head up for close to a minuet on his own! Now he can do tummy time on the floor for about 5 minuets before he loses it.

Keep trying no matter how small

My daughter is also 2months old and she hates tummy time on the floor but if she’s on our chest she’s fine with it.

You can do 5-10 min tummy time while he's on your chest- It is a bonding moment too. You do not have to do the 15 mins all at once, you can do 5 min increments throughout the day.

@Lauren how old was your baby when they liked the tummy time please if you don’t mind me asking x

@Pamela took her until 5/6 months before she was happy with it…had to just try little and often until we got there!
