Childcare funding England

We live in the UK England I'm a stay at home mum My partner has a full time job Our son turns 3 in September I was under the impression that he will not be entitled to any funded childcare hours until the term after he turns 3 years and he'd then get 15 hours. I've just been told by someone be won't get funding until 3 but then someone else say he would of been entitled from 2 years. Does anyone actually know? Also when and how do I get the funding of entitled ? Thanks

Are you in the UK as in England on Scotland? Different rules apply.

@Villy England

My son turns 3 in September too he’s not entitled too his 30 hours until January because it’s how the terms work. We didn’t qualify for the 15 hours neither. If you go onto gov website tells you all about it and you can apply from June. X

@Molly I can't find anything that says about if you don't work anywhere

I’m a stay at home mum and my son is entitled to it in January every child qualifies depending on annual household income :)

Now only where both parents are working can be entitled for free 15 hours for a 2 years old I just went through the prosess myself, my son started nursery this Monday. I am not sure about January though.

My daughter is 3 in September but she actually gets 15 hours free a week now and has since she started nursery in January, both me and her dad do work though so not sure if that’s why possibly x

It depends how much your partner earns, if they earn over £100k then you will only be entitled to 15 hours the term after turning 3, if under £100k then 2 year olds now get 15 hours free (provided your nursery is set up) and by September next year all children from 9 months will get 30 hours. To get the free hours you have to set up your tax free childcare account and there will be a code on your account that you need to give to your nursery, if you earn under £100k you also get your £2k tax free allowance as well you just have to pay the fee through the tax free childcare account. You have you redeclare your earnings are under expected to be under the threshold every 3 months. But yeah, how much you get and when depends how much you earn.

@Jessica I thought it was only if both parents are working that you are entitled to 15 hours from this April? My daughter has just started and she's 2.5 but we only qualified as we are both working

Ah maybe!

The current 2 year old 15 hour funding is only for families where both parents are working x

You are best putting your details in on the childcare choices website and it tells you exactly what you are eligible for, specific to your own circumstances, I'll post the link below x
