Birth control options and opinions

Hi everyone, I know everybody is different and take to certain birth control methods because of side effects and obviously depending on what they choose. But I have a 1 year old and I've decided not to go forward with having another child. Not being selfish atall, but I just personally want to keep at one. Anyways, I have PCOS and I've been on the implant years ago and I don't want to go on that again as it given me migraines. I was on the pill like before that but kept forgetting but I was young like 19. I'm 33 now. I would like to go on the pill or the 3 month injection? ...you never hear about the injection though from anywhere...is it good? Is there really bad side effects or something? Also with the pill....are all of them really that bad? I've heard reports of blood clots etc (sorry don't want to put anybody off) Also, Am I alright make an appointment with my GP about this discussion or do I have to go to a sexual health clinic? I just want to make sure I choose the correct birth control for me.

When I was on the injection, it was pretty much OK. I didn’t really feel any side effects. Some people are different when it comes to birth control. I know they schedule you a little less than over three months. I’ll be like two months and a half they schedule you to go into the OB to do your shot.

I have the injection and have done since I gave birth last January. I find it great, I don't have any periods and haven't since I gave birth. Just a couple of things, it has made me put on weight and you have to look after your calcium so I take supplements but that's it. I have also been on the pill before and the implant and this suits me much better. Xx

@Lucy Ah thank you girls for your responses! Can I ask Lucy, how does it make you put on the weight? Is it all like food cravings and such that you get from it? Or is it like lots of water weight in a sense? x

I prefer the NuvaRing I started with the Depo shot but I don’t like the fact that I have to wait so long for it to go out of my system I like the NuvaRing because you insert it yourself and whenever you remove it it takes two hours to completely be out of your system you can wear it through the whole month if you want and not get a period Or you can take it out once a month and still have one I haven’t had any bad side effects from it it’s been the best form to me

Oh interesting, not heard of this one before!

Yes it’s amazing and it’s essentially a small circular ring that you just kind of pinch and put inside of yourself super easy to put in and super easy to remove

I never tried the injection myself, thing is, everybody doesn’t react the same way to each method and with the injection, once it’s done that’s it for 3 months, if you are unlucky and have bad reactions there is nothing you can do but wait it out, I personally hate this idea… I’m actually looking into the patch, you change it once a week, 3 weeks on, 1 week off so you don’t have to think of it every day (which is my main problem with the pill as I am way to forgetful) and if there is any issues you can just remove it, haven’t tried it yet though, need to see where is the best place to get it, gp or sexual health clinic 🤔

Wow there's so many different options! Don't know which one to go by. I'm guessing it'd be best booking a GP appointment as they'll have my medical records and I can go from there. It's just all this scare mongering about certain ones just put you off, which really doesn't help.

I just had a conversation with someone from my local sexual health clinic, my initial, long term preference is to get the coil, I had IUDs before and it’s just the best in my opinion, it looks like I was misinformed about getting it fitted making it feel near impossible at the moment with crazy waiting list, which is why I was looking for the patch in the meantime, but it actually looks like getting a coil fitted should be doable so I’ll be going for that. Few minutes to get it fitted and up to a few years of peace of mind without anything else to do, perfect in my opinion
