Baby in the sun?

Now that it's getting a bit warmer, I'm starting to think about going out with baby in the (hopefully) warmer weather and wondering what to do as everything I read online basically says don't expose babies under 6 months to the sun, and also don't use suncream. My baby is nearly 7 weeks old, and it's not like I'm planning on sunbathing, beach days or anything too wild.. I just fancy not being stuck indoors constantly. Maybe going out for a walk sometimes. And I don't drive, so what if I have an appointment or need to go to the shops or something 🤔 What does everyone actually do with a young baby in the spring/summer?

We got a SnoozeShade for the pushchair 😊

Also loose, long layers and a sunhat

Baby can be shaded under the hood of the pram/parasol. Exposure is to direct sunlight not just generally being out when it’s bright. At home in the garden we used a pop up UV tent last year for ours which worked very well too along with a small paddling pool and a shade over half of it to protect her x

I don't drive either. My boy is now 2 but we had an excellent pram with sun protection. He stayed in the pram with a wrap so we were able to go for walks, coffee, shops etc. If we went to the beach we stayed on the grass under a sheltered table or used our sun shelter but we didn't do that often. Hope this helps. Feel free to message me and congratulations ❤️

Okay, so this feels like odd advice... What have tribal cultures done with their babies ALL of these years pre pop up UV sun shades??? Or is this recommendation only for fair skinned children 🤔 Point being, I think you can take your baby outside. Just don't let them sit too long in the ☀ without shade 🤷‍♀️

Just try to keep them in the shade. I got a parasol for my bram last year which did a pretty good job of keeping the sun off him when out walking. You can use a snooze shade or Muslim to drape over for short periods but be careful with those as they can cause over heating in the bassinet

We have a snoozeshade for the pram but tbh my daughter was out in the sun when she was small but only allow them out for an hour exposed in the sun. Thats what doctor advises.

Go out in the morning and evening when the sun isn't directly over head and stay in the shade. Also do sunbathe a little bit and build up a tan to help protect against getting burnt.

I’m going to wear baby in my sling and wear a massive hat myself so that baby is in the shade but I can still see her nose/mouth/airway

We used suncream for our little one under 6 months. It’s not always physically possible to keep them completely out of the sun at all times and I figured that suncream was less harmful than sunburn. He’s 19 months and suffered no adverse effects from the use of suncream 🙄

Following

@Cassandra R they would keep their kids under the shade of trees. Also I have seen moms carry their babies protected under a big calabash rind. The fact that modern devices are not used doesn’t mean that babies are not protected in the sun.

@Marta Yeah... so I did say keep them shaded. The original post made it sound like she was advised not to take her baby out during the day at all- which is ridiculous because how? Anyway 😆
