Please help

Hi, I’m new to this page but would love to hear from others with a similar experience. Speech delay Vs autism - What's the difference? I have a 2 year old who is very active, playful, calm, eats well, sleeps well and has good receptive language, just not saying any words. He is a pretty chilled kid, no tantrums and happy for the most part. I'm in the UK and raised my concerns with the GP who noticed he has an upper lip tie and has referred me to SLT. How long does the referral take to come through. Is it also best to rule any hearing issues? Would appreciate any advice please. Thanks in advance.

My oldest has autism and my youngest has a severe speech disorder. I noticed a big difference with them. I trained my pre verbal girl at 2. I didn’t need to worry about her going round food shopping. She would organise her oldest brother by putting his clothes out ect. She was social despite lack of speech. She was seen by the educational psychologist who didn’t have any concerns. Depends on your area regarding therapy. They don’t tend to bother until the age of 3. Our waiting list (covid didn’t help) was 18 months. My son he was seen a month after his third birthday. Both kids I got their hearing done as that’s the first thing they want ruled out before starting.

I'm 35 years old and didn't speak until I was almost 5. I'm not autistic but I needed speech therapy as a child. I often wonder if I would have been diagnosed with autism if I had been born 30 years later. I was strong willed like my own daughter so I was full of tantrums. I also had no lip tie or hearing issues to my knowledge. I just isolated myself with my own little language nobody else understood until a therapist made me take talking more seriously.
