I don't have a personal experience. However, my friend is a midwife and wanted to do her placement there due to the additional care and lots of good reports. Another friend has had 3 children and highly recommends there too. It's somewhere I'd like to consider should I stay low risk xx
Hi there. I live in Keyworth and I looked at St Mary’s as a possibility too. Although it looked good on the website, I was put off by the fact that there are no doctors or emergency medical facilities there, and if anything unexpected happens during birth which would require more advanced medical treatment, they would have to transfer you to a hospital. The hospital is likely to be one in Leicestershire, and because we live in Nottinghamshire, I thought it would be easier for my husband, family etc having to go across-county from Notts to Leics if I end up in hospital.
I don't have any experience of St Mary's. All I would say about any birth centre is that there will be no doctors available. If you are low risk and have a complication free birth, that's no issue. If you develop any complications, they will have to call an ambulance to have you taken to the local hospital labour suite. Just something to consider.
