Hello. My section is fast approaching, I’m really anxious for all of it but especially the spinal. Can anyone share their experiences please 🙏🏻

It was no where near as bad as I expected! The worst bit was the cannula in my hand.

Hiya I had my section on Monday, and I was exactly same as you. Was so anxious about the spinal but honestly I didnt feel it. Putting the cannula in my hard was sorer. Everyone in the room was so nice and kept everything calm xx

@Becca would you say it was painful the spinal? I have a fear I’ll jump and end up paralysed.. silly I know 🙈xx

You can’t feel the spinal at all I’ve had 2 and honestly never even knew it was done , they do a local anaesthetic before hand you just get a warm feeling & cannula is the worst I think like every one else has said x

Agree with others on the cannula 😂 advice would be don’t let someone ‘have a go’ at that. Get someone that knows what they’re doing. I had two people attempt and fail. The anaesthetist came in and done it first go with no issues. The spinal however was totally fine! I was having back contractions and still managed to stay still. The anaesthetist even said he wasn’t happy with my position and needed me sitting more straight so someone in theatre just held me up properly and it was fine, no pain at all. In fact heaven after 12 hours 🤣

@Liv did you experience sickness?

@Lucy my first one yeah as that was an emergency c section, my second none at all that was elective so I was calm xx

@Liv mine is planned and I’m terrified of being sick

@Lucy they have anti sickness ready and waiting 🫶🏼 let them know and honestly you’ll be in such amazing hands xxx

you really don’t feel it! it’s more uncomfortable just having to sit there w your back exposed bc the room is soooo cold, but other than that, it’s not bad at all. BUT i was sooooooo itchy afterwards, which is normal i guess. i didn’t know that so it was horrible. they offered some meds to help but i didn’t want to take them bc i was already soooo tired and didn’t want anything to make me even more tired.

I barely felt it! :) good luck xxxx

I had a spinal with my section. No issues just shook. Alot. But they told me to let myself shake. So I did. I was frozen from 3:30ish till about dinner time before I could 100% feel any pain.

I was nervous about the spinal also but honestly it really wasn’t that bad! It’s quick also so I really just felt the initial stick and didn’t even feel it come out. Your nurse that’s gonna be with you is going to be your biggest cheerleader so lean on your nurse!!!

I have had 2 c sections and I was nervous during my first, important thing is to relax when they do the spinal, I was so tense during my 1st time they couldn't do it properly but once it was done it was nothing to worry about. The 2nd c section was a doddle and i was much more relaxed.

I have scoliosis so it was a little more difficult I think but the anesthesiologist was super great communicating with me and seeing where I was feeling things as it hit some nerves and I did jump a little but everything was fine and everything went numb and tingly as it should :)

It’s not as bad a you think I promise I had my baby 9 weeks ago I promise you you can handle it they put numbing spray on the injection is nothing

@Sarah I too have scoliosis ! I have a rod and screws though so they had to look at my scans to figure out where everything was. I was told I can't have the Epidural though 😅 only spinals.

The spinal didn't hurt at all. They will tell you how to sit, give you a pillow to hold and that's it. I honestly didn't even feel it really. I was anxious just like you but pleasantly surprised.

My experience was SOOOO good. The hardest thing was getting the Iv as I have really bad veins. The spinal literally felt like they popped a pimple on my back. I was so nervous the whole time and I wish I wasn’t as that adrenaline lasted a long time and completely drained me.

I didn’t even feel my spinal.

Yes cannula was worst part!

My experience was not so good. It took over an hour and 4 anaesthetists to successfully do my spinal. They had to use an ultrasound machine in the end to find the right place and mark up my back. They tried at least 40 times between them all, on top of the lidocaine injections. So all together they must have injected me nearly 100 times 😮‍💨

I felt the anesthesiologist feel my back because the way they feel for the spine is basically grab your hips and use their thumbs to feel the spine but that's all I felt. The numb you before the needle and typically they have a nurse hold you still

Just breathe through the sicky feeling x

I had one last week and it was great. Just ask for more information or clarification on anything you are concerned about. You get a local before the spinal or epidural (in Australia) which is more uncomfortable than the actual drug in my opinion

I was really worried about the spinal too but it was like the least worst bit! The cannula was the worst part!
