Braxton hicks or contractions ?

For the past 24 hours I’ve been getting very uncomfortable cramping a little worse than period cramps. Not extremely painful though and the pain comes and goes. I am 35 weeks & 4 days pregnant called my OB she said to go to the hospital cause she can’t really determine over the phone. What do you ladies think ?

Braxton hicks, contractions would be near unbearable x

Go to the hospital I got pain at 39 weeks had nothing before so assumed Brixton hicks when I arrived at hospital I was 6cm 🙂

I would go hospital though my contractions weren't too painful when I got to hospital I was 8cm

I had this last week and when I rang the midwives they said to take paracetamol to see if it’s eased and if it did then good. If not they told me to ring back and go in to be checked. I was 32 weeks. Mine died off but were painful and exactly like period cramps on and off for around half an hour or just a bit longer x

I would go to the hospital, i had the same thing happen on the 13th. I was in preterm labor and was already dilated.

How close are they and how long do they last? The good thing about going to the hospital pregnant you can go right to the labour floor to get checked out so you aren’t there for forever , if it’s not contractions then you can just be sent home but have peace of mind.

lol I’m going through the same thing trying to decide if this is Braxton hicks I feel it in my back, you should probably go get checked out

Braxton hicks ARE contractions. They just aren't labor contractions. When they are consistently close together and don't go away with drinking water, taking a bath, that's when you need to get checked out

@Tallya how long is consistently? Like a few hours or days?

I was told the 5 1 1 rule , if the contractions are 5 minutes apart lasting for one minute and for an hour . Basically if they are getting stronger and closer together . If you can’t make it go away like Tallya said by taking a bath , distracting yourself with something .

I'd go in regardless, if you're a first time mom you may not realize your pain tolerance. I was able to sleep/rest through my first day of labor, it was when I hit 6 cm that I wasn't able to talk and such

@Emily not always true. I ignored my contractions until I saw blood when I woke up in the morning because I thought I was having a bad reaction to spicy food. And my entire labor it just felt like a bad period. After my bloody show I went to walkart because we still needed dialers and a few things in my birth supplies list. 2 hours after my walmart trip I was at 7cm and baby came 2 hours after that. Braxton bucks shouldn't be painful according to my midwife. Uncomfortable tension but not painful. I couldn’t tell you because I never felt them. I would definitely reach out to a provider in this instance. I even checked my list of am I in labor and when to call the midwife and didn’t think I was in labor at all.

I was told to count how many in an hour. Not how close or how long but how many total in an hour at 10 was the call the midwife so she could head to my house (she was about 45 minutes from me) she came when I had 8 the first hour of counting and 7 the next to check me out. Turned out I was 7cm dilated already. She was preparing to send me to L&D to see baby’s position because she couldn’t feel his head. Did an exam and was like oh well there it is 😂 she was sure I’d be 2-3 cm at that time. I labored in active labor for 7 hours before my little man made his appearance.

I thought I was having Braxton hicks the few weeks before my labor. Then my water broke out of no where and I still couldn't feel the (apparently very strong, according to the hospital monitor) contractions. I gave birth at 35+5 lol. Not to scare you!!! But def go to the hospital and let them double check😂

I never had braxton hicks and didn't think my contractions were unbearable, just a bit uncomfortable. I didn't actually realise I was in labour and when my waters broke, it took us 40mins to the hospital by which point I was 9cm. I'd go the hospital to get them check
