Does anyone know of any work while on maternity leave to earn some extra cash only a few hours a day/week??

You cannot claim SMP and work (it will end your SMP), and most companies if not all won’t pay company maternity pay whilst you work for somebody else either

@Yasmin 🙈🙈 jheez such a small wage!! Not wanting to go back to work when it ends needing to find something from home a few hours a day any suggestions?

Yeah as Yasmin said you can’t work another job and get maternity pay, that’s like working but claiming benefits for instance. Although you can claim some benefits whilst on maternity I believe, check universal credit etc

Delivery take aways for cash xx

I’m pretty sure you can work for yourself on a self employed basis even while receiving smp as long as your employment contract doesn’t forbid it, have a Google, there’s something about it on workingfamilies.org.uk but also other websites too, you can also do 10 KIT days with your employer where you will receive full pay for those days x

@Rosina thank you!! I’m not employed I’m receiving smp but looking for work once that has ended at end of July, just a few hours here and there as will still be looking after little one. Just wondering what there is out there to do really? Should of made that clearer on here🙈

You can work as long as its self employed and under a certain number of hours whilst on maternity leave. Also worth looking into KIT days!

@Kelly can’t do it unfortunately not employed claiming smp🙈

@Chloe worth looking into doing some self employed stuff. I think some mums do amazon or hermes deliveries. Or there are also wfh things you can do, check on indeed for free lance or self employed stuff!!I think its up to 15h, but best double check.

As long as you are not already self employed and claiming maternity allowance you can do truly self employed work and still claim SMP. Maybe look at delivery driving or something like that, but bear in mind as a self employed wage you'll need to think about tax etc

Unless you do under the table, you'll lose SMP unless you declare self employed tax, which means you have to do self assessment at the end of the tax year.

what about buying & selling on vinted? xx

@Chloe I’ve made a fair bit selling my babies grown out clothes/ my old clothes that don’t fit anymore/ random things I don’t need on Vinted. I also buy the majority of baby things and clothes on Vinted so save money going out that way to x

If you're on smp you can work self employed so could always find a self employed cleaning job if possible or delivery driving

Hi @Chloe I have been bringing in extra cash for the everyday for the past 3.5 years working at home around the kids, selling FM. My inbox is always open if you ever decide you would like any more information 😊
