When to call the doctor

At what point do you take your little ones to the doctor? I can't keep taking time off work for the sniffles. But I also don't want to miss anything that could develop into something worse. Why is this so hard šŸ˜©

I've called when I'm worried about an ear infection or mine is inconsolable or running a temperature. And I usually call the advice line first. Exception: my little one has a fever of 103. I took him right to urgent care.

If mine is breathing fine, I donā€™t see any of the rib dipping breaths they say to look for, no fever, then I just keep an eye on them for a day or two. If by day 3/4 thereā€™s no changes or itā€™s getting worse than I go. You can also call and share the symptoms and the pediatrician should tell you whether or not to come in. No sense in risking them catching something worse for minor sniffles.

Safe is always better than sorry if youā€™re unsure but also, you know your kid and what is or isnā€™t normal šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

As long as theyā€™re still producing wet diapers and drinking a little I usually will call the nurse hotline and they usually will give some sort of parameters of when we should bring them in

We have a advice line as most pediatricians have it, but my husband is a MD so heā€™s a great source right here in home but when heā€™s not around I will ofc follow my gut and if anything then straight to doctors or hospital. Luckily we havenā€™t had any emergencies šŸ™šŸ»

My pediatrician told me to give my son zertec kids only 2.5 ML because of the season. I give it to him 2x a week (was doing Everyday like recommended and that didn't work for us) and the sniffs have gone away. To answer the question if you are seeing behavioral changes i.e. lack of interest in playing less active sleeping a lot and there is a fever or other symptoms I e. Coughing and sniffles. If you are treating the symptoms for more than 4 days and see little to no change. That's when I take my LO to the doctors. Life hack a warm (92 to 95 degrees) bath with a cap full of apple cider vinegar and Epsom salt is a natural treatment to break a high fever. Key is to keep the bath warm (in that range) Also get a drain catch before you to this next one like the ones for kittens sinks to stop food. Cut up fresh lemons mint and put it in your bath tub turn the shower AS HOT AS IT WILL GO you are aiming for the steam and sit in the bathroom (mint and eucalyptus shower bombs work WAY better in terms of clean up.)

my doctor has the option to send in pictures or videos which helps if iā€™m not sure if something is more serious than it seems. if your doctor for offers something like that i find it very helpful to avoid trips to the doctor for something small

I take my son to the doctors the second he starts to act weird or different or shows any signs of being sick, I see it as I have insurance might as well use it and make sure he's fine over being worried about it and the doctor and nurses have never made me feel stupid for bringing him in so that's a plus!

I take mine in if they have a fever thatā€™s not breaking with Tylenol or advil, and if theyā€™re lethargic and not eating.
