You need to figure out a way to get your baby to the pediatrician those first visits are important they need to make sure they’re gaining weight properly and developing normally. I wouldn’t worry about getting in trouble as much as the well being of your baby. Can you ask someone to drive you to the pediatrician?

@Chloe most people I ask claim they are busy

If you call your baby’s insurance they may be able to set up a ride for you to get to and from appointments

Call 211 they will help

Public transportation?

If you have Medicaid they can take you!

They ask these kinds of questions in the hospital about if you have the transportation and means to take care of your new baby. You can get in trouble and the DR can call CPS once you do go. If they aren’t able to get their wellness checks to make sure they’re healthy or their vaccines, that can be considered medical neglect. Transportation according to the state isn’t a reasonable excuse when medicaid and chip provide rides. Also, not having vaccines can cause issues for daycare. Not trying to scare you, just want you to be aware🩷 Try to get a ride scheduled, ask your mom or babydaddy.

How did you get them home from the hospital ? Do you have a carrier ?

Could be considered medical neglect. Especially in the first weeks of life

Are you on Medicaid ? https://www.hhs.texas.gov/services/health/medicaid-chip/medicaid-chip-members/medical-transportation-program#:~:text=Nonemergency%20medical%20transportation%20services%20are,provides%20covered%20health%20care%20services.

@Karissa can't get in trouble for not getting vaccinated. My son's not all you need is a paper.

@Lisa Correct. I didn’t say you would get in trouble, it can just make it difficult sometimes. Some centers can and will refuse admission if it’s too risky for their already enrolled students. Freedom to choose won’t get you in trouble, but medical neglect will and not taking your baby to visits that are necessary for development can get you in trouble.

I would call a pediatrician office. Tell them you have no car. Ask how to get there safely. And go sooner than later. Better now than later

Call your insurance so you can get a ride. They pay for it!

@Karissa that’s the sad truth.. no she won’t get in trouble but they do take it against you if anything happens. I know a lot of case workers. My sister’s friend is or was one.. my mom…etc

Use uber or a ride share. Its important to get to the checkups.

It's a good idea to take them but no you cannot get in trouble. It is not medical neglect either (unless something is wrong with baby). Plenty of parents don't take their LO, plenty of wonderful loving parents don't go to wellness checks - they aren't always necessary. You don't have to vaccinate on the CDC schedule so if you choose to vaccinate, you can start later. In fact, a lot of medical professionals recommend starting them 6 months. Just be thoughtful about your little one's immune system. Also, in Texas any public daycare and public school must accept all vaccinations exemption. This included medical, religious, and/or personal belief exemptions. Now, if something bad happens to the baby and they find out you weren't taking them then yes, it could be held against you. Really watch the diaper output, it's the best sign that baby is getting enough milk. Watch for rashes, fever, breathing (sinking chest), flat head (tummy time helps prevent this), is baby lethargic, yellowing of eyes and/or skin.

If you or your baby has Medicare, they can provide a ride for you. This site can help with medical transportation as long as it's not an emergency https://member.modivcare.com/en/register/new Is there a peds office or medical clinic near you that you could walk to? Maybe call a local pregnancy resource center and ask if they can help you out too.

Medicaid can get you a free

@Emily I had to get a ride from another family member at the time

If you have other reasons like too many car seats for a ride and need a van.. you can ask for that but yes,.. putting in cassata is not fun😓 that’s why I been begging my husband to get one so I don’t have to carry one of the kids on my lap(I don’t know how other countries and cultures do it, it’s not fun!). I finally have a van to transport all my kids and I don’t want to move their car seats in and out.
