Help! What would you charge to nanny/babysit? Info in comments

Your close friend "hired" you to watch their toddler for a month or two while between daycares. You'd be watching (and teaching /feeding/ playing with) the baby at your house for theirs depending on the parents schedule m-f for the most part along with your own toddler. What would you charge?

Well, I am an experienced and qualified childcare educator/NCS/private Nanny with over 20yrs experience. My rate starts at $40ph but I know unqualified, less experienced Nannie’s that charge $30 ph. Younger Nannie’s just starting out are charging around $28 ph.

Oh and that is AUD.

I charge $25 per hour although though very experienced, but don’t really need the money, but if was a close friend guess comes down to how much you would need to do and how many hours considering don’t need to travel guess saves you fuel. I know other nanny’s I speak with some charge $15-$45, guess comes down to personal preference, also think about reasons why your friends asked and how much her and her partner are earning if she’s partnered.

I’d say about $15hr

I would say pick a number that you feel good about. That you think is fair and you’ll enjoy watching the baby for. Sometimes when we ask for a lower rate and we actually end up resenting the work and regret saying yes. Some questions to ask yourself: Are you a professional nanny or childcare teacher? Are you in financial need? What is minimum wage or regular pay for this job?

Thanks so much everybody! You have all been helpful. I always have trouble charging friends and family. I don't want to be unfair to my friend nor to myself.

I would look at what food / snacks / drinks / nappies / fuel etc you’re expected to provide, total that up over the week and that’s your starting point for how much tk charge xx
