Debt help

My current situation £5000 debt with credit card. Currently about £500 in missed payments £400 electricity and gas bills, now have a debt collection company chasing me Made redundant 2 months ago, so I am currently on universal credit which only just covers my rent and food shops Water around £200 owed Can't pay council tax and I have nothing until my next UC payment which also will not be able to pay any of these on. Feel like I'm stuck on a hamster wheel! I am a single mum with 1 child. Ive already had a payment holiday on my credit card, which has ended and I cannot afford to pay at all. Same with my energy bills. What do I do. Obviously I am looking for work, I don't understand how people survive on UC for a long period!! Also to note, I do not get any child maintenance, he owes me.aroune £3000 and CMS have said they can't get hold of him ,🙂🙂🙂 I'm crying everyday due to money issues. I am a failure of a mum

You are not a failure whatsoever xx i used to work as a financial advisor (before I had babies) feel free to message me we can go through it all and I will try to point you in the right direction x

Please contact step change they're a free debt service and actually helpful. You can get a 80% reduction for your council tax if you're on UC. If you are with Severn trent they also have some funding & grants and you can get a reduction where you only pay like £8 a month

As above, contact stepchange asap and/or the Gingerbread Trust x

I also highly recommend step change, they are brilliant and it will take a massive weight off of you once you get it sorted, they do all the hard work for you in consolidating your debts and will go through your budget with you and will tell you the solutions that’ll best suit your circumstances. You can do the budget calculator on their website first if you want and then arrange for someone to call you! I know it feels so daunting now and it’s so hard to take the steps to get out of the financial hole you are in but they will support you and things will get brighter! You’ve got this!

Me too

go on a payment plan and pay the literal bare minimum, so that way you aren’t being chased down! even if it’s a fiver, tenner or £20
