Why does society and employers expect you to work like you dont have kids? They only want fulltime and want you to be flexible like you have imaginary childcare around the clock and everyday 😒 how are you all doing it?

I couldn't, I went back 4 days and then dropped to 6 hours a day. This is WFH with the nursery 10 mins away by foot. I go into the office 1 day a week and it's a nightmare, it's a rush day and I get nothing done. There's talk of us going back to the office 3 days a week and honestly I haven't slept properly since...I don't know how I'll manage. My OH works full time and shifts so it's all on me!

I'm fortunate enough to work on an industry that caters to mums so I know I am blessed when I go back eventually but what I have learnt from my clients is everyone in their jobs is expendable and so if you can't meet the expectations of the company they will find someone who can. It's absolutely a disgusting way to think of staff and it should be the case that everyone's needs are catered for as surely a few part time mums working the same role can cover one full time person but they never see it that way and also have the expectations that your job is your sole purpose in life and the reason for living when working is just a way to fund your life so you can attempt to be comfortable financially. I've seen a lot of my clients quit their jobs in the first few years and become sahm until their child's in school and then still have to pay for a childminder to mind them until their shifts finished. It's definitely not easy for mums in this country and we get penalised left right and centre for being mums.

@YazmynJade its so awful isnt it. Its obvious they are thinking that way that if you cant do it they’ll easily get someone else who will 😒 then the government and society frowns upon mummies/parents who dont work. This talk about flexible working, its never accepted with the reason of “needs of the service” so you’re easily pushed out of a job 😒. I wonder which job is more family friendly? Which industry do you work in? I work in one which is mainly female dominated but yet these same issues

@Jai its completely unfair how they expect you and other parents to function like this. Long term its not possible and takes away you enjoying the kids too but its also not possible to live off one wage unless you’re super rich

I work in beauty so we have the option to set our own hours even as employees of a salon which is a godsend. I used to work all hours late nights weekends etc and I know when I return I'm very much able to say I'll do X days X hours and that's it and I'll be offered the role as it's always been this way in beauty as we all understand kids come first. Society needs a whole shift on how it views working parents and needs to be flexible for them
