Me too! I also posted asking the same Q. Hoping to see some thoughts or advice 😊

My daughter is the same just holds the food in her mouth once we finally get it in there 🤣😳x

I haven’t started weaning yet as my LO is only 4 months but my drs sent me some information through in preparation and it says that ‘food’s fun until 1’ so basically as long as they have milk still it’s ok if they just play with it really 😅

They will want milk and its advised to have the milk quantity or feeds same as it has been till 1 year as that is their main nutrition. About weaning, sometimes it takes to develop tastes, as of now they will need very small amount, like 1-2 tbsp. Would suggest to try different things and eventually they will start taking it. My son doesn’t like puree or fully blended foods, so I smash with my fingers and keep it in a consistency so that he doesn’t choke but also gets the texture, understands chewing. Every baby is different, and will take their own time.

yes it seems she prefers to grab her food, but worried she’s still young for finger food, thank you all for your comments, feel a lot better knowing it seems a common thing, i think because my first, he loved food and had no problems xx

The first thing babies do with food when they get shown it is discover and explore. They’ll smush it with their hands and just see what it is. Babies have only had milk so aren’t used to solids and different textures. It takes babies up to 10 tastes to decide if they like something or not. Just because your baby isn’t swallowing or eating right now it just means they’re exploring and will eventually start to eat. If baby prefers finger food I’d deffo go with that, we started finger foods as soon as my lb turned 6 months. Just make sure you’re aware of the difference between gagging and choking if you’re going to do so :)

Do you do BLW or purées? My baby refused to be spoon fed and had 0 interest in it. We chopped him some avocado and he took to it like a duck to water biting into it and chewing you’d think he’d been weaning a while. Definitely play around with different textures/ tastes and you’ll find something that tickles their fancy. Milk is still really important as it provides the bulk of their nutrition, food at this stage is for exploration and to up their iron reserves so not too much pressure just keep it fun! x

yes i’m currently on the joe wicks weaning book so doing purée with a side and she seems to be going for the side over purée

Mine doesn’t like being spoon feed, she will taste it only if I give her the spoon to her hand but loves pineapple

This is very much normal, I know babies at 1 years of age still declining food xx

yes my little one prefers to hold the spoon and try herself so going let her explore all her self and do it her own little way, thank you girls for the all the advise 🫶🫶🫶
