Baby sign language

It’s so cool isn’t it! I’ve taught my little one the sign for more and the sign for all done for meal times, but she uses it in other situations like when she’s done in the bath, wants more pushes on the swing etc x

We’ve been teaching our son the basics (yes, no, finished/all gone, food/hungry, drink, please, thank you, sorry, nappy). We haven’t been to any classes but we are/were both in jobs where we would use makaton on a daily basis. He’s coming up to 15 months and it’s so sweet to see him use it. He’s just started to independently use finish/all gone at meal times x

I really wish I used it! Do you think if I introduced it now it would take him long to pick up? X

I never even thought about doing this and I really wish I had!

@Ceri I don’t think so! They’re like sponges at this age

We’ve been using it since about 6 months. My daughter has also recently started to use her signs and it’s so helpful to know what she wants. When family see her they’re so impressed that she can communicate things!

@Beth that’s amazing! More is one of the signs my little one doesn’t do haha, but I think if I get consistent again with it maybe she’ll start!

@Xanthe I’ve been signing more for months and months and she’s literally just started doing it so maybe it’s one of the harder ones!

@Ceri @Holly I think they’d definitely pick it up if you introduced it now, as long as you were really consistent! Someone who comes to the group has only just started and her little girls signing milk and ouch after a few weeks!

@Katie yes! And it’s great to see family getting involved with it too! Nice to know the hard work is paying off on our end too!

We haven’t been going to classes (wish we had), I’ve been watching Ms Rachel to learn and then using it with her. What’s so weird is if I sign for her, she gets angry and starts crying lately. Anytime I ask if she wants milk/more/or if she’s done in sign, she legit has a tantrum. I ask my sister to sign with her over FT and she hates that too 😅. But, if Ms Rachel asks her to sign..she’ll do it happily??? 😩

Haha that’s so strange!! Hopefully it’s just a phase!
