Hi everyone

My LO has been with a fever since Friday , at 2am I took him to the ER bc it went up to 105.1 I was really scared. They did the flu test and RSV and it came back negative thank God. They also did X-ray to rule out pneumonia and it came back negative too. They said that it must be a virus and to keep giving him Motrin. He’s still with fever I been switching between Tylenol and Motrin when the fever spikes up but now it’s not going down. Should I take him again to the ER or what should I do?

If it won’t go down I definitely would

This happened to us in February, he hit 104 and his eyes were rolling in the back of his head. It was so scary! We rushed him to ER and they ran tests and gave him Motrin and Tylenol until it went down and sent us home. The only thing you can do is make them comfortable and keep hydrated. Trust your instincts!

If temp does not go down and it reaches over 103 I’d take him in for sure. 103+ to me is ER needed due to possible seizures or can be worse. Definitely keep babes hydrated and comfortable as possible.

I'm a peds nurse. Keep him hydrated. Cool baths. Now fever is actually good for the body, we just don't want it to get to high. So I wouldn't give the Tylenol until the fever got close to 102. Instead of Tylenol give a cool bath. Elderberry syrup is amazing!

I wouldn't advise giving both Tylenol and motrin at the same time it should he 4 hours apart from eachother

@Rosanna oh God I imagine how scary that was 😓

@Tasha thank you, last night it went up to 101 I kept putting cool hand towels in his forehead I felt like that helped a little

@Amina thank you!! he was not having the same energy he always has. You could see he wasn’t feeling good. But a few hours later he started playing. Just that now the fever is back it’s not that High. But I’m keeping him hydrated and definitely lots of cuddles

@Tasha yes I wait 4 hours in between, if the fever is not back I just wait the 6 to give Motrin again

I left the hospital with my little girl yesterday, she had the same fever with a very high heart rate - they did lots of tests including xray and she was sent home with antibiotics because both of her ears were red, as she was 15 months old she met the criteria for it, since taking the antibiotics she has improved massively and today is her first day since she has had no temp (temp started Wednesday) if your little one is still struggling I’d suggest taking them back and ask to check their ears x

@Sophie when I took him to the ER the Doctor checked both his ears and they were fine. I’m starting to believe maybe it could be teething?

If the temp gets to 102.5, do a 15 minute Luke warm bath (70-80 degrees). Then put them back in clothes and put a cool compress or wet wash cloth on their head and back of neck. Keep alternating the Motrin and Tylenol. ❤️ My girl went through something similar last week. Doc said it was viral, but the next day her temp kept spiking, turned out to be a double ear infection. Day 2 of the meds and she was feeling so much better, temp has stayed normal since then.
