Formula feeding

How is everyone preparing their formula bottles in the night? I'm currently doing it by the manufacturer's instructions, but it's taking up to forty minutes to get the bottle to my baby, and I feel so guilty when she's hungry. I know there are faster ways, but I'm so nervous to try... please help 🙏

Tommee tippee prep machine! Takes no more than 2 mins to make a bottle to the correct temperature 👍🏻

We use the nuby rapid cools. NHS approved as you make the bottle with the kettle as usual and then the rapid cool just cools it down

I have the tommee tippee prep machine too but I often just use the nuby rapid cool - takes up less space

I wanted the tommie yippie machine buy couldn't afford it. I'm currently filling bottle up with boiled water b4 bed. Then wen needed I put scoops in at time of needing bottle

I boil a kettle, wait half an hour then pour it in a flask. Keeps the temp perfect

I use the nuby rapid cool and fill a flask with boiling water, I put everything on my nightstand by my bed so I can bottles up without leaving the room at night

I replicate the prep machine with 2 flasks One has boiling water in it and the other has cool boiled water Say I’m making a 6oz bottle, I’ll pour 3oz boiling water in bottle, add formula, shake and then top up remaining 3oz with the cool boiled water so it’s at perfect drinking temperature straight away xx

Hot shot method

I do the same as Grace, I try to replicate the perfect prep, I have some cool boiled water on one flask and then I boil a little water when the feed is close, so I add around one oz to dissolve the formula and then add the rest of cool water (I like to give the bottle towards cold rather than warm, so is easier when I am not at home)

Prep machine or nuby rapid cool x

I have the tommee tippee prep machine for at home feeds and the Nuby RapidCool flasks for when I'm out and about. Absolute game changer!

Boiled water in a flask 👍🏼 keeps hot all night then just pour into the bottle add formula and cool it down under cold tap

I do the same as Karolina x

We’ve got a camping fridge that can be plugged into a main plug as well as the car so I make bottles up to take up and have a little tommee tippee bottle warmer. We have a bottle machine but I didn’t want to leave her crying whilst I went downstairs to make a bottle and didn’t want to be carrying her up and down during the night sleepy and tired as I’m so clumsy.

Tommy tippee pre machine gives you a bottle in under a minute! If you can can’t get that, an alternative is boiling water on the hob in the early evening, popping it in a thermos and using that sterilised water throughout the night. Just make sure it’s at warm when you take it up for the night and not too hot.

Prep machine 1 upstairs & 1 downstairs

I use both rapid cool and flask. Either of them will work

@Karolina @Ellie this may seem like a silly question, but do you put the water in the flask at boiling point or wait for it to cool for thirty minutes and then put it in the flask? x

I put it in as soon as the kettle has boiled

I use this when I’m out and about, pour a measured amount into the bottle using the bottle to measure, I then pour that into the minute rapid cool, add the powder, then once the light is green to say it’s cooled (30 seconds) I put back into the bottle. When at home I use a prep machine x

*nuby rapid cool

@Ellie can I ask how you sterilise the rapid cool? I am planning to do this when out and about x

@Char I just rinse it out after each use x

Ellie, I use two methods to sterilise my rapid cools: I use the Nuby UV Portable Steriliser (£95 on Amazon Deals right now) if I'm planning to be out for the day and don't want to carry around lots of bottles / re-use the flasks! Sterilises in 2 minutes. At home I use the cold water sterilisation method with Milton tablets (about £5 for a 40 pack in most supermarkets) For this I have a tuppaware that fits two flasks where I fill it to just above flask height and drop a Milton brand sterilisation tablet into it. You can use it for 24 hours before replacing. Sterilises in 15 minutes.

A small note to add is that you can't submerge the thermometer lids for long periods of time so if I'm using the cold water method I clean in warm soapy water, rinse off the suds and then dunk them for 30 seconds in the tuppaware solution. You can pop them in the UV steriliser with no issues, it's just for the water method ☺️
