Milk alternatives resource

I'm seeing a lot of posts lately on milk alternatives. Not all babies can handle lactose very well. I'm linking a helpful resource that compares all the alternatives in terms of nutritional content. There's a really helpful chart in the middle of the page. Ripple is also a good option made of pea protein, but not listed,My pediatrician explained to me the most important things they need from milk is the fat and protein content for brain development. Getting it from milk makes it more bioavailable to them. Hope this helps! https://www.healthychildren.org/English/healthy-living/nutrition/Pages/milk-allergy-foods-and-ingredients-to-avoid.aspx

This is helpful thanks for sharing! I also wanted to add a milk protein allergy and lactose intolerance are not the same! Babies are hardly ever lactose intolerant because there’s actually lactose in breastmilk!

@Jenna Turner good distinction! I think we are definitely dealing with that here. I gave my son lactose free milk and he still had diarrhea!

@Laura yess! My son and I have been dairy and soy free for about 8 months now! He can’t have any dairy products. It’s usually something they grow out of around 1 year old, but my son has not yet outgrown it. Hugs!

@Jenna Turner we have CMPA as well. Very severe. We tried hypoallergenic formula at 9 months and still couldn’t tolerate it. We did amino acid based formula (combo fed). We are using the sugar free kids ripple now. Peas have caused him to break out in a fine rash across his chest but doesn’t cause any other issues. Ripple is doing the same, but the pediatrician urged us to continue with the exposure. Food allergies and intolerances are awful!

@Jenna Turner hugs!

@Hannah so awful! I’m still breastfeeding through all of this so I am dairy and soy free for my son. In the beginning of our journey if I accidentally slipped up and had dairy (like a piece of cheese or a drink of milk) he was a completely different baby. It’s so sad watching them go through this and so difficult, especially with a dairy eating toddler and husband in the house lol! Hugs to you, here’s to hoping our babies grow out of this one day!

@Jenna Turner such a great mommy! Hugs back and fingers crossed that they do!

@Hannah you are a great mama also, you’re doing a great job!!!
