Changing diapers on a plane

I flew with my two year old son yesterday… it was a 5 hour flight and he’s too big to change in the lav, so I had a changing pad and just did it on the seat. It wasn’t poop or anything… just wet. I put it into one of the baby care/barf bags and sealed the bag. When they came around collecting trash, I put it directly into the trash bag. The flight attendant never touched it. I hadn’t even thought of putting it in the lav trash because I didn’t really think it was a big deal since I bagged it up and it was clean. But this flight attendant freaked out and yelled at me saying that I’m not supposed to give that to her and that she didn’t have gloves on…and I could hear her talking crap about me to the other flight attendants in the back - acting like I put a dirty diaper directly into her hand. I wanted to die. I’m still so humiliated. Maybe that was stupid of me to not think anything of that, but I feel like she could have been nicer about it. Shouldn’t there at least be some kind of communication from the airlines about their diaper disposal policies? How are we supposed to know? There was also a lot of turbulence and I didn’t want to get up with my son to throw it away… and also didn’t want to just leave it at the seat. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

They were definitely in the wrong. You took all the same precautions that I (and plenty of other mamas) would have taken! Those lav toilets are small for adults, let alone kids. I’ve done the same before and no one has ever had an issue. I’m sorry they made you feel that way. You did all the right things, mom! 👏👏

@Chelsea Thank you… I felt like that moment ruined the entire trip for me, and I haven’t been that embarrassed in a long time 😞 your comment made me feel a little better though! Like I’m not just some trashy idiot lol

I would have stood up and said. How about you watch what you say! I placed it into the bag. You physically never touched it!

@Brittney I wish I could… but my husband works for them and we flew standby so unfortunately I just had to take it, or else he could get in trouble. It was embarrassing to hear her talking crap and pointing me out to the other flight attendants though and I wish I could submit a complaint about her

@Megan She’s not his boss so I don’t think it would affect his work I definitely think you should file a complaint!
