Washing / Sterilising

Hey! Not long to go now ladies 🤰 I just wondered, have you washed all your baby’s new clothes, comforters and muslins and have you sterilised all teething toys and bottles etc already? I don’t have a steriliser yet!!! But just wondering if everyone does this and if you think I should. I’ve washed most baby clothes but there’s that many I gave up. Thank youu

I've washed all his 0-3 months clothes not done bigger sizes yet. I've sterilised his bottles and dummies but kept them in the steriliser as I plan to redo them when it's closer. I only did them as there chance he going come soon so wanted them to at least have been done in case xx

I've washed everything that baby's skin will come into contact with with. Haven't sterilised anything as I think most things only stay sterile for 24 hours so I'll just have to do it again x

Oh really? So if I sterilised his teethers then they’d need doing again? I sterilised a bottle and some dummies (pacifiers in USA) but that’s because they’re self sterilising in microwave. I’m planning on breastfeeding but also expressing so would you say it’s worth getting a steriliser? Also I have 3 Mam bottles; how many would you say I need? Thank you 🙏🏻

Also do you sterilise teething toys / rattles in a steriliser with everything else?

@Donna they only stay sterile for around 24 hours after this time they will need to be redone. I haven't done toys etc yet will probably just soak then in steriliser fluid in the sink as opposed to put them into a steriliser. I have about 12 bottles but that's because I want to try and make sure I've got enough to last a day without having to sterilise as often

I've washed all his clothes newborn, first size and 0-3 but no bigger as there is no need yet. I've washed all his blankets/muslins too. I've also washed his tummy time pillow and this lay down matt thing (can't remember what it's called😅) as we got it second hand from a friend 🫶 Haven't sterilised any bottles/dummies as no point yet! I'm also planning to breast feed and pump and we've got probably 10 bottles, probably OTT but I'd just rather be prepared xx

@Katie I’ve sterilised a bottle which I’ve put in my hospital bag. And dummies which I’ve also put in hospital bag. Because it could happen anytime now couldnt it! I’ve washed all his clothes except some new stuff which smelled ok because I got loads from baby shower! I think I’ll put his comforters in next wash then. I’ve washed all blankets and muslins too x

I’ll get some more bottles. You all using Mam ones? I’ve heard they’re the best. They’re also so cute with the little pictures on front haha 😅 not cheap though are they!

I've washed pretty much everything, not sterilized anything though, as bottles etc. only stays sterile for 24h amd that is if you follow the rules for that type of sterilization. Depending on your method of sterilization I would however test it out, just so you know exactly how it works and how long it takes and not have to figure it out for the first time after baby is born - did that mistake with my first and it was a disaster 🤦🏻‍♀️ also, certain things may need a different type of sterilization or not be suitable for one or the other, so qorth checking the instructions on what you have. I am a big fan of steam sterilizers, but certain things cannot go in there by memory. Still have some bits from my first to clean, like the baby gym and some toys.

@Aglika do you sterilise rattles/teethers or just wash in hot water? Can you just use hot water in sink with sterilising tablets?

I’ve washed all his clothes ect and sterilised all his bottles and dummies but will sterilise again once he’s here

@Donna I’ve just ordered these. I nearly bought them at the £84 price and yesterday they reduced so grabbed them whilst I could. They are off Amazon and are a large set

I’ve washed all clothes, not sterilised yet as they only last sterilised for 24 hours to 48 hours x

@Donna I was under the impression you're not allowed to take bottles to the hospital? Thought you had to take the premade ones? I've also got a variety of bottles to see which he will get along with 🫶

I've washed all clothes up to 3 months. Not sterlised anything yet but plan to BF. Need to clean my steriliser first as got it from my SIL

@Katie oh I didn’t know that. I have some pre-made ones but they were from a friend and not in the box so don’t have a teat for them, so I brought 4 of those and a MAM bottle :/ x

@Donna it might not be true! I was told its because they can't guarantee that it's been sterilised but I'm not sure.. might be worth asking your hospital just to be on the safe side!xx
