Baby has dry flaky skin

Hi! FTM and I’m at a loss… my 5 m/o baby’s skin gets so dry, rough and flaky despite my best efforts to keep him moisturized. I’ve tried Dove Baby, Aveeno Baby, Aveeno Baby Eczema, Mustela, La Roche Posay and I’m starting to wonder if it’s the lotion or if it could be something else (formula? Detergent?). Also unsure if related and he’s itchy as a result or just discovering his body but he scratches at his thighs and legs and pulls on the skin on his stomach during diaper changes any chance he gets, some times until he bleeds. I just want him to be comfortable — any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I was having this with my baby as well. I'm a ftm too. I tried all the different soaps and I was told it could also be the water that I was using to shower my baby so I started boiling the water before her baths and I normally would give her a bath everyday and I cut it down to 2/3 times a week and that helped very much

Try eucerin eczema, I found that’s the best cream for us and I feel I’ve tried them all

My baby girl is 4 months now and she initially had dry skin. Aveeno baby didn’t help much. But we started applying coconut oil and give a very gentle rub, especially in the areas where her skin was super dry. It got better with time and her skin is now fine. However, if your baby’s skin is sensitive, you might want to check with your doctor. I have heard olive oil is also good, haven’t tried it myself.

Sounds like Eczema. We got a cream from the doctor for when it really bad. We bath her every night. Pat dry. You want to keep the skin moist so we put vasaline all over her body and then put her to bed. Toy can use regular vaseline or creamy vaseline. I find regular does work better.

Heyyy ftm to twins and with my baby girl she was also pretty dry all the time and flaky at that age too. They are now 10 months and all the flakey and dryness has gone. My son never had this issue at all hes been smooth the whole time.

After the bath I would use castor oil for both my babies. I wouldnt suggest using creams for anything that is specifically for eczema as those are harsh and don’t cure anything just hide it. If it doesn’t look like eczema and baby is just flakey that happens to a lot of babies at this age and it most likely will go away with time

My baby wiuld get these scaly dry pathes on the legs, arms & face, we did coconut oil massage, followed by bath after 30 to 60mins. I didnt bathe baby daily, did 2 to 3 times a week. Would clean face, palms with a warm wash cloth daily. Liv clean oatmeal cream is what we used.

You can cut down on bath if you do them daily, sometimes the water is too harsh. Try giving a bath with breast milk and oats. Eucerin is a good one to use. I use rose water after showers rub in let dry, then I go in with a cocnut oil and raw shea butter mixture. I also ensure I moisturize twice a day, morning and night. Rose water anitbacterial, it may help sooth the skin.

My daughter get a very dry spot on one of her cheeks. Dr told me to just use Vaseline before bed and in the mornings and woukd dissappear within 2 weeks. It actually Disappeared on less than a week. I was toldby doctor that body lotions can burn the skin more thsn helping it.
