Is it super important that you celebrate your son's bday on his actual birthday? While he's younger and especially this year, why not celebrate the weekend before or the weekend after? Do you visit any soft play areas or even the library? You may be able to book a small room. Get a backdrop for pics, decorate the highchair for the smashcake, and serve his favorite foods. I agree to save the large extravagant parties for later on. My daughter's first was during Covid, so we had a virtual party, and I was gutted that I couldn't go all out. Ha made up for it every year since. This year, the girl wants ponies, zebras, and mermaids. She's turning 5.
@Shanee his dad is flying out to LA for his actual bday. I have no mom friends or even non-mom friends besides my one out here so renting something out would be pointless for 3 of us and my son :/ i think i decided on a little beach day and dinner at mastros Malibu beach location. Then the next day taking him to build a bear. Plus balloons and presents waiting for him at the house when he gets up of course
You could do a picnic on the beach! There are a bunch of companies that do really amazing picnic setups for you so you just show up and eat/enjoy. We did one in Santa Barbara but I know a bunch of companies do it in LA too. I think Picnic Makers is one.
Hmm. My thoughts are make it a mother-son day for combined first birthday and mothers day. You can have the big parties next year, but this could be just an extra special, extra intimate day focused on the two of you.
