Help please! Formula quantities..

Hello everyone! I recently switched from EBF to formula, so it’s all rather new to me. The issue I am facing is, I give my LB 5 bottles per day (7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm, 11pm) each with 120ml. This takes us to the max recommended amount for his age, of 600ml. However, as he is used to being breasted at night, he is still waking 3 times a night for food. I have tried giving him warm water in a bottle which he accepts for a few sips, but then will kick off until he has milk. Therefore I think it is partially for comfort, but this makes me feel like maybe he is still hungry? Should I just go cold turkey and stop giving him milk at night because it would exceed the 24hr amount limits? Thank you :)

It’s not a limit it’s a suggested guideline - I’d give baby as much as they’d like. Could also try offering bigger bottles less often? My LG is 11 months and usually has anywhere up to 820ml formula in a day plus 3 meals, although this is starting to reduce.

They’re probably waking up cos they are hungry, that’s what my HV said to me I’m having the same problem! Xxx

I try picking my son up seeing if he want to be cuddled if he doesn’t want that change his nappy and give him some milk xx

Definitely go by baby’s lead, they’re all different and baby will let you know what they need. If they’re still asking for milk then they must still need it. Baby will drop the feeds themselves when no longer needed, usually after 1 when you can offer food before milk during the day 😊

My LG has 2 8oz bottles a day, one after lunch and one after dinner, she cut her morning one herself, maybe baby just needs bigger bottles

There isn’t a maximum for their age - it’s all a recommendation for what a ‘typical’ baby would have. However there is also no typical baby! Our girl has always had waaaay over the ‘maximum’ recommendation, since being a tiny girl! She now still has lots of that 600ml - she will have around 850ml per day, alongside 3 meals and 1 snack. Go with your baby’s lead 😊
