Heart murmur?

Hi Mums, Does anyone know anything about heart murmurs? We had a pedatrician appointment last week (not about this) and she listened to my sons heart. On the report is says “heart sounds dual with soft murmur heard (heard before)” I’ve now stressed myself out and wondering if I should be taking him to the GP.. he also had just gotten over a cold and is 15 months old. It’s never been mentioned any other time..

Not quite the same as your situation but My LO has a heart murmur and had an echo done when he was 3/4 days old and confirmed he has a hole in his heart. They said to try not worry now and he will have a check up in a year to check whether it’s closed.

My son had it at his 8 weeks check. Not sure what it was and the dr wasn’t concerned, though told us to come back when baby was 4 months old. At 4mo it disappeared Unless baby doesn’t look well I wouldn’t worry too much.

When my son was still in the scn at around 2 weeks old they picked up that he had a heart murmur. When we came back to for the hospital check up they checked his heart and it had disappeared. :)

@Ing Thanks, nothing has ever been said before so I’m confused

@Steph Thanks, it’s always been fine so unsure why that comment was made now

My sons heart murmur never became loud enough to be heard until he was 9 months old and moving around, crawling, pulling himself up etc Echo confirmed VSD (hole in heart) which he may be having open heart surgery for. We find out this Friday actually. Unless Bub has obvious delays or issues it can definitely be nothing to worry over. They will investigate further if they feel the need x

@Arleea I’m really surprised she didn’t mention to keep an eye on this or anything I’m quite confused

If it worries you I’d definitely seek a second opinion so then either your worries can be settled or it can get the ball rolling of seeing if there is a cause to the heart murmur! GP will be able to listen and refer to cardiology at a hospital or something!!

My daughter was born prem and had 2 heart murmurs (PFO and PDA). It’s very common in prems and some newborns. She’s 8 months / 6 months corrected now and doesn’t have them anymore. Most babies grow out of them, by around 6 months of age.

@Mary My sons 15 months old which is why I’m confused by the comment as he’s had his heart checked multiple times by a doctor when he’s had a cold and they have never said anything

My sons murmur was picked up at 5 weeks old but no one actually told me about it til he was 4 months old. We did the echo and it's what's called an innocent murmur, which means they don't really need to monitor it. My cousins husband is a paediatric cardiologist and he said that innocent heart murmurs are super common in boys. Wait to see what the echo tells you.

My girl had one when she was a baby dr said it was fine shouldn't affect anything she's 8 now and last they checked its gone. Can grow out of them I guess s

I have had a heart murmur my whole life and I’ve had my bubba 8 months ago through natural labour. It is relatively common for people to have heart murmur and some go there whole life without knowing it’s there especially if it’s soft. You got this mumma you are doing amazing 💕
