Induced early?

I had my OB appointment today and it was discussed that if I don't go into labour before, I will be induced a week prior to the date I'm due because this is my first pregnancy. is this common practice?

The only reason is cause I your first?

First pregnancies tend to take longer than the average 40 weeks. If you’re 42 weeks then that’s another story. Does the OB have any other reason than this is your first? I truly believe baby will come when he’s ready to physically be out in the world.

It was the only reason given to me, bub is fine otherwise

@Dev then my opinion is not to rush the process. Baby will come at his own time.

No not common unless there is a risk involved. I had high blood pressure and was induced at 39 weeks

Right, it’s my understanding that they should only be electing to induce you if there was any risk with your health or stress on the baby, or otherwise if you were past your due date. I was induced with my first at 39 weeks because I had a dvt clot & was on blood thinners. Just like first time babies tend to be a longer labor, in my experience & from what I am aware of, inductions also take a long time, so I can’t see that being grounds to induce. Plus you run the risk of a “failed induction” and getting a c-section. I’ve heard some DRs prefer to schedule an induction out of convenience for themselves. So unless this is something you prefer to do, I would definitely push back or at least get the reasoning as to why they are suggesting it. Whatever you are most comfortable with is what’s important.
