Cows milk and breast milk

I was trying to read online but couldn’t find any useful information. I’m exclusively breastfeeding by little boy and I would like him to start cows milk from 12m once a day (let’s say in the evening so I could have a little bit of my life back and share the load with my husband). Does anyone know if breastfeeding all day and cows milk in the evening is ok? Or how does it work?

So from 12 months baby can start to have cows milk/other milk substitute in place of breastmilk at any point of the day. You could maybe start replacing just one feed a day and gradually increase from there depending if you want to continue BF or not :) there’s no right and wrong with it really! Babies nutritional needs change at 12 months and they can’t get everything they need from BF anymore but say if they were eating enough dairy in their diet cheese etc then they don’t necessarily need a milk beverage as they’ll be getting what they need from food. Obviously there’s so many benefits from extended breastfeeding though. I’m planning to continue to BF and let my little boy naturally wean himself off himself and start to offer a milk alternative/water at some points during the day and see how we go! I think night weaning can be trickier as a lot of babies BF for comfort but if you wanted to BF baby in the day and milk in the evenings give it a go and see how you get on 🫶🏼

Yeah thats fine

We are EBF too… from 12 months you can offer cows milk but they don’t need a set amount or even to replace a whole feed with it in a bottle or anything (actually best to not use bottles). Instead you can offer cows milk alongside meals like you would water and just make sure they have good sources of calcium in their diet so yoghurt/cheese would count. Of course every baby is different and they may need more milk but the aim is a balanced diet across 3 meals & 2 snacks. Of course BF has loads of benefits so if you are happy to keep offering then great. I’m going to try and be on 2 feeds morning & night but if I was away one night we just would skip that feed (pump for comfort), I wouldn’t replace it and just rely on the meals in the day. This is completely fine to do. So it’s really up to you but you don’t need to replace it with a set amount of cows milk and can have more freedom. Yay!
